The mouse is evil and fucks up a lot of things, but Predator movies haven’t been good since 2 and the series has lived entirely off of the Expanded Universe material & crossovers with Aliens since then. We’ll be fine.
AvP movie franchise & The Predator bombed and we’re a direct to dvd franchise now. Straight to hulu with no theatrical release.
They’ll keep Alien as theatre-worthy but pred is on its way out and treated like a B-movie.
Pred hasn’t been respected as a theatrical series since the 90s. Hell even then everyone hated Predator 2 when it first came out and said only the first movie was good. Nothing has changed and nothing will change. At this point Predator & Alien exist more as Comic Book & Video Game IPs than they do movies, since they haven’t had good ones in over 3 decades each.

Next to Predator 1, Predator 2, Alien & Aliens: the things both franchises seperately & together have produced with as much cultural impact & quality reception has been their Comic storylines, the video games & the toys. These series have lived off of Comics, Games & toylines since the 90s and continue to do so. Stuff like Darkhorse’s work & AVP2 & Concrete Jungle go down as the highest quality outputs both have had since their original two movies.

These are film franchises. Licensed media is beholden to the films; not the other way round.
They aren’t doing well as games for a decade now, I don’t recall avp2010 performing well. I doubt we even get another avp until they just throw something out to maintain the ip in another 5 years.
I’ll give you Alien Isolation but Aliens FT is a reskinned World War Z, PHG is equally low faith albeit its an original idea. Both running on a budget of silly string and prayers. Colonial Marines?

AVP Gold & 2 are regarded as some of the best FPS ever made for their time. Even 2010 is regarded in high esteem despite its flaws for being so damn fun. The first FPS AVP game on the Jaguar was legit the ONLY reason to buy that console. The AVP arcade game by Capcom is another cult classic & one of the best Beat 'Em Ups on the Market. Same with Concrete Jungle, beloved by the fanbase and everyone still clamours for a sequel or remaster, just anything for it. And then there’s other classics like Alien Trilogy, AVP Extinction & Alien Isolation. Historically & statistically, both IPs have always done better in gaming markets than they have done theatrical markets for over the past 30 years. And considering movies are nowhere near as big as gaming is now and are essentially dying due to a variety or economical, quality & post-pandemic reasons, that’s not set to change anytime soon: especially with both franchises only having 2 good films respectively.
On a statistical level, both franchises have pumped out more quality products in gaming alone than they ever have done theatrically. And that’s not even getting in to the Comic lines. Darkhorse was a beast for its time and the Comics form the cornerstone for basically EVERYTHING we have about the two IPs to this day that isn’t lifted from the original movies. Hunting Grounds itself runs on a ton of Darkhorse-era backdrop & logic. And the sales numbers of the Kenner toylines, and the NECA & McFarlane lines to this day speak for themselves.
It may be sad to say, but neither Alien or Predator has been primarily movies franchises in a LONG time, and even more so they haven’t had anywhere near the quality in their movies that every other aspect of the IPs have had since.

Everythings been relegated to low faith outsourced shit and will more than likely stay that way because no one wants to play low faith outsourced shit with an alien paint on it and they interpret this as people just no longer caring about the franchise.

Triple A studios monopolize the talent for 3 major releases a year and everything else is low budget indie shit or cell-shaded calarts walking sims that are all just carbon copies of eachother like the tech and creativity has just completely stagnated for the cost.
PS3 was the golden era. What we have now is just microtransaction live service battle royales moreso on console because people only want to gamble on what works. It was like this before muh pandemic excuses, the industry started killing itself as soon as major investors got involved and games just became super safe imitations of eachother as a result.
PS3 was not the golden era at all. That’s insanity. The 7th Generation is probably the absolute worst generation in gaming history. Everything about it was a bottle neck of both creativity & technology. Made even worse by the fact it was coming off the 6th Gen, the Era of the PS2: argubaly the greatest generation to ever exist. If your idea of the gaming market is entirely stuff like Activision; Ubisoft, EA who throw out the same garbage year after year I’ve got bad news for you. There’s so much more to gaming than that and those fuckers have been doing since the PS2 era. How many Fifas exist? Exactly. And they’re all the same. But that shit was happening as far back as late PS1.
Capcom came back, banger after banger with their RE Enginge. We got the REmakes. DMC5, the greatest action game ever made right after DMC3 only Itsuno can surpass himself it seems. Then we got Arc System Works saving fighting games with Dragon Ball FighterZ & Guilty Gear Strive. DooM came back and kicked major ass. DooM Eternal is out here being the best damn FPS in over 20 years, maybe even ever. Final Fantasy is on a roll with 7 Remake, a fantastic revisiting of the greatest JRPG ever made for a new era, and 14 has become the most successful MMO in history, surpassing even WoW now. And then we got games like Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, the Demons Soul remake, Elden Ring I guess now, Spider-Man by Insomniac. Crash & Spyro even came back. We got a good Star Wars game through Jedi Fallen Order. Everything is going really well but we have judge the massive booming industry by the same old 3 Triple A Western devs that mostly cater to dudebros?
I’m not counting Japan. This is 100% a western game dev problem and yeah they compose majority of the industry.
Games arent all 3 player zombie stab cosmetic collecting battle passes because of a pandemic. Its like this because this industry is straight up crashing after too much money got involved and not enough results for the likes of confused out of touch studio executives that have nothing to do with the game itself. youtubers are selling games now. these are the dark ages.
Japan isnt going to effect the next alien or pred game we get. The big studios here are.
Japan isn’t why this Alien game coming up is a carbon copy of another 3 player horde shooter.
Considering Japan makes the largest amount of games, essentially saved the industry several times throughout history, make the biggest series in several genres and outright created half of them… yeah no Japan matters. They have always mattered to gaming, perhaps more than any other nation. Without them we wouldn’t have a good 60-70% of gaming itself, hell we might not even have it at all considering ET crashed the industry and Nintendo is the only reason it recovered. I care a hell of a lot more about what Japan is putting out then I have done the vast majority of the West for the past decade and a half because outside of some rare bangers like DooM & Spidy they haven’t had much and Japan has to pick up the slack again after 7th Gen.
And maybe we should let Japan have another crack at Alien & Predator. Considering how goddamn fantastic their output on it had been with stuff like the AVP Arcade game back in the day. What they could do now with it could be fantastic. Yeah it wouldn’t be an FPS because Japan hates them but varierty is the spice of life. They could make an utterly fantastic action game, maybe even a new Strategy game like AVP Extinction. Hell even an RPG would be super fun to have. We don’t always need shooty bang bang.

West has shit games compared to Japan I agree 100000% percent and MHW + EDF + Ace Combat + Bloodborne alone made a PS4 worth buying. Just like with manga, japanese actually put effort in because they are overworked and underpaid so they have some kind of motivation beyond sales and self-congratulatory recognition. Anime arena fighters and adaptations largely suck though but even their cheap games play better than our cheap games.
But thats besides the point as alien and pred are stuck in the hands of cheap outsourced crap while gaming in the west kills itself and herein lies the problem unless someone wants to hand franchises over to Japan. our entertainment industry in general has been absolutely stripped of creativity in favor of either copying eachother for participation trophies or pushing politics because annoying endless controversy sells. It’s not just games its some kind of plague killing every single hobby here.
The game is definitely bad. You can still want to play it purely cause they have the market cornered on predator games lol
