Well for one. A football player is not a new cannon person to the lore. It’s a guest character and a dumb one at that. And secondly, the characters from the original film are WHY everyone loves predator. It’s not just the predator himself. Anyone can make a monster movie. Having good characters to make you feel something everytime one of them bites it is something else. There’s a reason predator is such a good movie, and it’s because the human characters were just as compelling as the creature. Not many movies can say that

The issue with the football player wasn’t that he’s a bad idea. Someone recruited into Dutch’s team is a genuinely interesting idea that leads to stories down the line either with the squad or with how he met Dutch. You could even do little lone wolf missions with them showing what that encounter might’ve been like.
The problem is that it’s a guest character. Marshawn Lynch has acted in a videogame before but this is very clearly a football player put into the universe because the devs wanted to do something silly. It’s Marshawn Lynch in Predator Hunting Grounds. It’s basically a guest spot. He’s not a movie character, he’s not a guy from any comic or novel, his lore was made for this game because they managed to get a celebrity cameo.
The hilarious irony is also that a football player managed to get a spot in a Predator game before any movie Predators, movie heroes, or even wild cards like the Assassin or the Predator Killer, Predator dogs, or even the Super Predators.
