As a snake replacement he sucks but imo as a character his arc between 2 and 4 is pretty awesome, it suits him a lot more to be a cutscene/side character rather than protagonist

The story needed someone ignorant but with hero potential. Raiden fit the bill. It wouldn’t make sense for Snake to play that role
