I don’t buy the argument that someone smaller and less trained can’t do the unlikely and defeat a Predator in combat.

To use an example, Joan of Arc was a teenage girl, she not only fought and won against fully grown men but against Dragoon’s who hunted for her on the battlefield, dragoon’s sole job was to find knights, pull them off their horses and take them prisoner or butcher them. English dragoon’s were trained to fight the best knights of the period, they got fucked up by a child, on a battlefield with ever advantage on their side.
Sure she believed god was protecting her but it’s not like she actually had plot armour. Just fearlessness and guile.

I’m not going to prejudge the movie. I can think of a number of plot contrivances that would give a young girl an advantage when fighting a Predator on a battlefield of her choosing. Whether it be leading the Predator into a fight with say a bear, or trapping it in an inferno.

How they handle the tribe itself worries me more. I’d really rather not watch a parody of Comanche culture, the image we have of them is centred on one narrow period in their history. Horses changed their culture dramatically and depending on their presents could change the representation of the tribe dramatically as well.

Will any of them own casinos? 🤔

Such as? Because bigger and more advanced people got slaughtered by them? I know dutch went old school at the end , but he still got stomped

I listed two. She can use a surrogate warrior in her place ie. a Bear or mountain lion, or she can use the environment. A plains fire can spread at a ridiculous rate, a herd of Buffalo can stampede through a whole village leaving nothing but rubble.

The writers have their work cut out for them, I don’t think a repeat of Dutch’s endgame will work.

I’m also not ruling out that she will be stomped, but that other people could die and that her survival to the end may be tortured by lose.

Oh , I thought you were kidding with those examples? Sorry

It’s up to writers to make it believable, not me.

That is no comfort , no offence.

Prequels , if not done right? Can do more damage than good . The fact they are jumping into the hot tub time machine tells me they don’t have anything spectacular and think if they do it in the past , then regardless of quality they can say they done something different.

Hopefully I am wrong though .

Everyone’s already walking on eggshells wym

You guys are actually alright for filthy dirty commies and canadians.

I actually love @Jaya_Soames’s vids its a shame he has to seize the means of production

Our disapproval for woke being showed in to in 80s franchises

You’re welcome to prejudge Skulls, I only joined the conversation to point out that Ridley went against eighties gender norms to cast Ripley as a women. Just because someone put out a description that included gender norms is no reason in my mind to jump to conclusions about it. Look how Alien turned out, it went against convention and is celebrated for it and the character of Ripley is a fan favourite across the board.

Some movies do try to hard to check boxes, some movies are badly written, acted, or directed. If your take away is that this doesn’t fit Predator, that’s cool man. I’m curious to see what they do but don’t have any stake in it other than wanting it to be good and show the Predator off at every opportunity.

I imagine an extended sequence where a hidden human, maybe our protagonist gets to watch the Predator from hiding. I’d have them watch from in the water as to disrupt their heat signature. This way the protagonist has a reason to understand what a Predator can do. We as the audience can watch uninterrupted as the Predator makes a kill/trophy taking and this to me can happen in a movie like this.
I don’t think the movie will have a deeply political message though, I think it will be subtext like in Aliens. Might be wishful thinking on my part but that doesn’t mean I think you’re not allowed to have a different view, especially with so little information.

Alien was NOT about gender norms - gender norms was not even in the air - movie was about space truckers fighting an alien, period

I’m really happy that you did, and I respect your opinion

Thank you ,I will ;-)

This.
It featured a female protagonist surviving an alien.

Is that the gender norms part?
She almost gets newspaper’d by Ash. It’s not like she was dueling men and playing men’s football. Decision-making? Is that the gender norm?

I don’t consider final girls in Jason movies to be breaking gender norms either. Is the norm that theyre supposed to lay there and die?
Was Glover breaking racial norms by not being the first black guy to die in a horror movie?

a spec ops team thinking they were going against soldiers till most of them died, only one of em had an idea of what was happening and he was Comanche, and he sacrificed himself to fight the monster he SENSED since the start of the movie, will go more on this later, Preds are cocky, that’s how they lose, because they underestimate their prey, Dutch won because of traps, not because he was a 80’s macho man, he tried punching the pred and that just resulted in the Pred looking at him like “Really? Aight lemme try then”

So, you know how Kee is a truth teller and a Warrior? So is Billy, they are setting this up to explain why Billy recognized the Pred presence in the jungle, it’s likely Kee or her brother are his ancestors, will also fit with the voodoo bs from the second movie where the voodoo mob boss could sense the Pred too

Ok… are you talkin about Billy? If so, can you tell me where did you get the info that he was a Comanche. I’m not trolling or anything, Its just I did not know that before. Can you refer me to source please?
