You’re welcome to prejudge Skulls, I only joined the conversation to point out that Ridley went against eighties gender norms to cast Ripley as a women. Just because someone put out a description that included gender norms is no reason in my mind to jump to conclusions about it. Look how Alien turned out, it went against convention and is celebrated for it and the character of Ripley is a fan favourite across the board.
Some movies do try to hard to check boxes, some movies are badly written, acted, or directed. If your take away is that this doesn’t fit Predator, that’s cool man. I’m curious to see what they do but don’t have any stake in it other than wanting it to be good and show the Predator off at every opportunity.
I imagine an extended sequence where a hidden human, maybe our protagonist gets to watch the Predator from hiding. I’d have them watch from in the water as to disrupt their heat signature. This way the protagonist has a reason to understand what a Predator can do. We as the audience can watch uninterrupted as the Predator makes a kill/trophy taking and this to me can happen in a movie like this.
I don’t think the movie will have a deeply political message though, I think it will be subtext like in Aliens. Might be wishful thinking on my part but that doesn’t mean I think you’re not allowed to have a different view, especially with so little information.
