I will never get the predator’s fetish with melee weapons… Advanced aliens going around fighting with swords… Wristblades make sense (like army guys having a knife) but spears? Arrows? Makes no sense.

Makes perfect sense. They’re a hunter race. Spears and arrows have been used as hunting tools for centuries; even to this day, we use them for hunting. The technology for them is far more advanced of course, but they’re still useful tools. I’m sure they have much stronger, energy based weapons like you’d expect, but they’re hunting humans, not some large armored prey. Also, fighting hand to hand is more honorable to them, rather than picking them off with some super rifle.

I have my doubts on Alien. I’d like to be wrong but I have the feeling we’ve seen everything regarding Alien already and within a week or two we will be back to normal numbers.

Ultimately, the predators are a reflection of us, and humans use a lot of different weapons to hunt, but we don’t simply only use the most effective. Sometimes it comes down to resources, sometimes it comes down to local laws, and sometimes it simply comes down to creating a greater challenge.

They’ve been used before we invented far superior weapons or have access to this far superior weapons. People use rifles this days, at least all the hunters I know.
Yeah, thing is they also use cloak and a plasma cannon that can take down planes. Melee looks like a last thing for them (at least in the movies) and/or when the last guy standing gives them the duel thing.
Also they don’t seem to care about the size of the humans when they blast them with a huge blast of energy.

I don’t think they are doing it because they don’t have access to resources. They got a plasma cannon on their shoulder. Local laws as well as creating a greater challenge does not seem to apply to shoulder cannon or cloak.
The only reason they use those tools is because someone, somewhere though it was a good idea to give a futuristic alien that has interstelar travel, caveman weapons(well, almost).
