If that is your argument, view distance, then lowering view distance will have the biggest impact on performance… guess what? It doesn’t.

so you haven’t answered my question. Is the view distance in Doom Eternal capable of viewing everything on the center of the map all the way to edge of the map? You guys seem to want to argue about this ALL DAY LONG without me actually TELL YOU because you won’t answer my question.

You’re trying to make an arguement of Doom Eternal being optimized and getting 144 FPS on 1440P . So this is like what? An enclosed environment with a set number of triangles? Think about the rendering budget.

The enclosed environment set in a jungle won’t render the jungle. It only renders whats in the room you’re in.
If you’re in a map that is ONLY jungle, the entire jungle needs a level of detail thats good enough, then it also has an rendering radius, and believe me thats pretty large in itself.
Then you need to take in count that the it loads parts of the jungle while you’re running through it.

DE did a great job in use of perceived space but ultimately there isn’t much too render asides from the immediate 10-80km space you run in and some matted backgrounds. PHG has 400+km viewing area that IS COMPELTELY loaded and filled from from to back!

And there is probably a long load time to buffer into the ram of the videocard or even in the system ram.

Are you going to keep arguing the whole problem is the amount of triangles and not the fact that every little leaf is generating shadows that affect the performance and hence why turning shadows to low boosts FPS levels to actual playable levels?

Shadows arent the issue. I see shadow maps in the game in a radius rendering form. I see it everytime I play. So maybe your shadows are set to Cinematic or something when it should be on only HIGH or MED.

You can’t explain any kind of game mechanic or development process to Mass.
It’s literally impossible.

The whole map is rendered in this game for some reason with foliage and shadows still moving at a considerable distance. I don’t think they really know what they’re doing with the engine.

Ik it’s an old point but they certainly got more money for launch than they are getting maintaining the game I’d think. So they should have ran after Launch Game State if they just wanted money.

Anyway… shadows setting on this game is not like the usual shadows on other games. It is literally the whole game lighting effects. That’s why it has such a drastic visual change when setting them to low and such a performance impact as well.
