Likeness rights exist. I’m not sure where exactly the idea came from that you could dodge copyright by changing names but Toho sued Rugrats over Reptar’s resemblance to Godzilla so that’s never ever a safe play even if its parody characters or easter eggs you need permission if they demand it.
