I tend to wall off monuments, and charge players for them to gain access. I have massive bases that requires the entire server to team up against one person, meanwhile all my loot is safely hidden in the ground, between huge external wall partitions. One wipe I took an attack helicopter to a counter raid and took everyones loot by blowing them up with rockets, while they were speed boating back to their base. Have destroyed several submarines and tug boats. Am a water pirate in the game, but also a farmer in the early part. It’s really only as hard / fun as you want it to be. I don’t even try to piss people off, but by the end of the wipe, everyone knows my name.
You’ll find roleplayers, PVP’ers, PVE’ers. There are dicks, but also great people who play. I used to lead a team of 10 people, most of them working industries like nuclear-engineering irl. You won’t find a game with more variety and thrills. It’s very addictive.
And no. We fight with AKs, MP5s and rockets. Not sword and shield. Not that those are the only weapons in the game. There are tons.

Heck, you can spend the entire wipe just gambling if you wanted to. You can go it alone, or you can join up with like a 30 person clan. Anything in between. It happens in real time too, so you could be at work while a 7 man team is pummeling your base and loot to smithereens. Usually the servers reset every 7 days or 30, depending on which you pick. I recommend going with ps5 rust instead of PC. Huge maps, lots of activity going on always. Pick 125 player full servers.
