Ok yeah, lol. I’d been seeing a lot of people talking about the knife and parry mechanic being too powerful but didn’t believe it. Sure enough, I have seen the error of my ways. I hoped into a match as the Predator Berserker class. I usually play the hunter and wanted to try the berserker’s melee style. Now, I still played carefully, looking for my moment. I found an isolated fireteam member, pulled out the ole combistick and went after him. Well, he just turned and looked at me as if to say “Yeah, right.” Parried my first attack, stunning me. Big bad Predator with a big bad stick being stunned by a little knife. Then, while I was stunned, proceeded to rips huge chunks of my health away with swings of his knife, parried my follow up and continued to stick me like a fat, drugged up pig. Even though he didn’t have a headset, I could still hear him laughing…
I end up in second wind running away, by which time his buddies show up to finish me off. I did get a kill via self-destruct but of course that doesn’t count for some reason.
So yeah, this is definitely nuh gud.
I don’t think the fireteam should be totally helpless against a Predator’s melee or gameplay is going to devolve into a boring meta of rushing melee playstyle. However, the Pred needs to be more dangerous up close.
Parry probably shouldn’t stun the Predator. That seems a little strange. Maybe make it easier to “parry” the attacks with a larger input window, but no stun to Predator and doesn’t negate all the damage. Maybe just enough to require an extra hit or two. Or Parry works but has a cooldown, and knife damage against the Predator is DRASTICALLY reduced. Knife damage reduction should probably happen either way as the Marines shouldn’t be able to knife fight a Predator and win…
Can I say I think the perk “Height Advantage” should always be on? I think the Pred should take less damage in trees and more damage in close. Bullet damage falloff is probably the best way to facilitate this, and then if players want extra protection they can use the perk. Anything to incentivize the Pred to stay at a distance and really only pick his moment to come into melee range. The Pred should always be more dangerous up close, but it should also be a risk vs reward thing.
