New Mode - Big Game

A couple of days ago I said I’d think about rewards to encourage mission completion. I think I have one.

The gist of it is as you complete FT missions or Claim Trophies, you earn credits, at a set number you can purchase a ticket. So the first ticket might cost ten credits and be a Small additional opponent, later a new ticket might appear. It could cost significantly more, say 50 credits and be a substantially bigger threat. This mode could be played as an addition to the regular game play loop. Example below…

  • Face Hugger, 10 credits (I’d really like this to be a way to get a FT member as an antagonist, if you get got, you become a Xeno.)
  • Lions, Tigers, and Bears, 20 credits
  • Crocodile, 25 credits (because it hunts from the water it’s more dangerous, also one fights a Pred in the book I just read, sounds awesome.)
  • Wild Predator Dog, 25 credits
  • Xenomorph, 50 credits (I considered leaving Aliens off the list but honestly I think they deserve a spot both here and in the game.)
  • Alien T-Rex, 500 credits

The NPC opponents could be anything from a Face Hugger to a T-Rex and there’s a couple more things I should add. All members of the lobby may all be able to do this Individually and you could end up with a significantly different experience than a normal game ie. 5 Xenos, or Dogs.

As Predators are the ones releasing these creatures or beasts it’s likely cheaper for them to purchase tickets.
The ticket sale price above is only a suggestion and obviously needs to be balanced in some way.

I’d like to add that I think the points could also be added to a pool of some kind and the enemies that spawn could be the total of the contributions. So a T-Rex could be generated that had 1 to 5 times the health, but would be alone. I think any extra large sized creatures should maybe be a threat in and of themselves and not need numbers.

However the ticket system works, I think both Predator and FT should have the option to fight the enemies 1v1. It should both add new dimension to the multiplayer and any story a player might want to experience, alone or with a friend.

I’m not a game designer, but I do think the team at illfonic can handle this, I hope something like it already exists in their plans but on the off chance we can add anything of value, post your own Big Game ideas.

I love Xenos just as much as the next guy, but Predator’s been without a game for a decade and more if you want to talk about true stand alone games, give em a chance to shine. Do like the idea of this Big Game Hunting though.

They don’t have to include Xenos this way.

In fact, it might be a long time between each addition to the hunt as
I’m sure they’ll want each one to offer it’s own challenges.

I would like to hunt some big game earth game as a Pred and I definitely want to fight something from another world as both.

I think the most satisfaction would be the Alien T-Rex. It’s the one I imagine have the best dialog and fight. Something that shrugs off grenades and Plasma bolts and just keeps moving.
(Ok maybe it gets stumbled but it’s the idea of something hard and challenging that I like.)

I too thought of having a “Game Reserve” mode just like in Predators where predators are releasing cages. Your idea is basically the same thing almost with the additional in-game credits earned for collecting trophies in exchange for a number of cages to be released in your next Predator game.

But lets leave the Xenomorph out. They have a large enough challenge to keep up with the Yautja Lore.

Bump, @Lazycollinator. This one in particular I think you might like other than the whole solo in PM part, Ha.

I think Loading in Solo might be balanced by not being able to claim the trophy for your room but also by not using a ticket. Just a way to see the beasts. I also think most of the more expensive ones should be almost impossible to 1v1 for a FT member. It’s gotta be hard for a Pred.

I would really like this mode as long as I get a personal trophy room to display. Lmao I was like " T-rex’s wtf.

Can you explain this one? this one got me confused entirely tbh

ediit

is this linked to your trophy room idea?

Basically you play matches, for FT the goal is to do objectives and escape, for Predator it’s claims, more for Long ones. Each time you do your sides objective you earn points or currency, you can spend these points or currency to modify the next match you play.

Ideally matchmaking will try and put groups together and create a unique if scripted experience, by that I mean if your loading in with say a Pred Dog at the same time as another player, you should be grouped. You both expect to see a dog but a pack might offer additional challenge and the game tries to accommodate this.

The Predator will want to add the beasts to their Trophy room for pride or a small advantage it might give while displayed. If a threshold of points is met, a larger beast might spawn, the tickets could only provide a chance at giving you what you ordered.

The FT, can obviously hunt the creatures to and possibly claim there bodies the same way they do the Pred, but the Pred could attack them and prevent it, changing the game but only sometimes. These experiences will be sought and grinded for because it’s different then the norm and you can earn it.

Edit - yes, it’s kinda a part two in spirit to the trophy room. I think about games the same way you do. In my head it’s all moving parts and potential additions.

Sorry about that im back.

I love this idea. maybe not the implementation of it to the full extent

But the idea of finally having to actually EARN trophies is monstrously appealing

Im gonna hit up the trophy room here too.

I love the trophy room idea, However, I think that all trophies taken, should not only be able to be placed in the room, but also be worn by the pred of course.

How will the preds cloaked ship protect itself? you said its a look no touch situation, but how does it prevent you from touching?

and if you cant get close, whats the point? you probably wont be able to see very well into it.

Actually I imagine you’ll be able to walk right up the ramp and into the room. Not the best place to be with only one exit for the FT though. I imagine if you approached the trophy’s or displays a “forces field” effect will stop you.
It’s mostly a way to share with your friends and set up cool looking displays or if they give small bonus, working synergy into your display.
Having a random FT see your trophies might be a matter of pride for some people, and an excellent place to ambush them. Showing off a trophy that’s was only Available when they were introduced or from a special event, or even one that marks you as a top player isn’t out of the question. People might play differently if they know only the best have a T-Rex skull.

Yes I think the Predator will be able to swap weapons here or even equip a trophy to their belt or armour.
The Predator can probably also use some form of scanner here.
If the Big Game tickets are introduced, it would be pretty awesome to save up and release a pack of hounds from your ship.

Scanner?

Like target isolation but with a map display, or piloting your Falcon from the control panel.
Something for when the teams just being to stealthy.

Interesting. I would love that, honestly.

There was another post I saw with a “predators” game mode style thing 3v12 and with a pred AI that the FT can cut free to activate the ship. Perhaps the trophy ship can also fit into a gamemode like that because it is no longer an oooh aahhhh thing. Its actually the FT’s only chance for escaping the hunt.

Regardless I do like the idea.

However let me get back to the ticket system here.

Who can use the tickets? Both teams?

Are they encouraged to work together to take down the prey?

“I dont need sleep! I Need answers!”

Lol, yes both teams earn currency to buy tickets. When they’re loading into a match they spend the ticket they bought, say a lion. They’re not guaranteed to get a lion but it’s likely. See when you actually load into a match the tickets are used to sort you. So players who have spent tickets are likely to be matched, both teams tickets go into one pool and the game generates the best enemies or enemy it can from the pool of points.

This way you get a greater chance of fighting something big or having more targets to try for. The Pred get the best chance to collect a trophy and the FT gets the best chance to collect specimens.

Ideally you’ll earn enough currency for a low cost ticket every 5 matches, so a big ticket might take as many as 20. The thing is you can risk your low cost ticket on matchmaking to get a better pull from the combined total of the tickets in the pool. If you do come in with a high cost ticket you’ll have the advantage of knowing a high cost target is in the field. For everyone else it might be a surprise.
The really big targets or special events might not warn anyone but the user of the ticket.

Edit I do need sleep but your excitement is appreciated. @Lazycollinator

Haha very interesting.

The only thing that concerns me about this is that the game can barely keep up with the matchmaking right now lol!

But with the proper motivation, players will grind. I know I would.

No doubt about that
