Not really.
It’s not hard to chip away their health at first (wound them, let your prey become weaker), then go for the kill.
That’s how Predator should hunt.

Did you play after this patch? Using the Predator and the Cannon?
Yes.
And I did before, I stopped relying on charged shots to down FT.
As a matter of fact, I rely on bow headshots or bow in general, as I’m usually a close range scout player.
I do a lot of hit and run attacks, that are often low in dmg but are frequent and oppressive.
So, why did you ask me if I played the new patch again?
look at my video’s maybe you can learn a few things from there :)
Scout main here. I have only lost twice since the new patch and once was a self destruct that took out the last guy so its kind of a win. The nerf just makes it more difficult but I am still winning constantly and I am always using the shoulder cannon still. Its pretty much just changed the 1 shot to a 2 or 3 shot for me. Its not been a big issue for me. Overall with all the nerfs to FT and the buffs to the bow it pretty much cancels out the plasma cannon nerf for me. I can reliably use the bow now, my shots dont get hit branchs anymore, and I can heal with a pig pretty much whenever I like. I dont know about the combi stick nerf as I take the netgun over it.
Silly argument.
It’s a game, if you want me to go into realism, anything would almost 1 hit kill you.
Enjoy a game in which you die on 1 hit from anything.
PHG is not a war simulator, it is an arcade game set in the predator universe. A game in which a HUMAN PLAYER verses another HUMAN PLAYER. Game needs to be fun to play and fair. Getting 1 shot from the shadows without any form of counter is not fun, this is what old peekaboo caster was. Cheap, easy to use, no skill involved (precharge, pop out, release, hide, such skill… get a melee only combizerker and hug together).
Caster was buffed in terms of quick shots dealing much more damage.
Making it more fun for both sides (more action and interaction).
Adapt.
xD you can easily dodge the fully charged plasma bullet and it wasn’t easy hitting a moving target the splash dmg didn’t one shot you the plasma to the face did …
Get close, pop out of the cover when FT is like 10 meters away from you. Aim at chest level.
Congratulations, you just released a projectile that is size of a small car.
Hard to hit.
Yes.
If you are blind or shoot from 100 meters away.
Like I said, in the movie a plasma shot could easily kill someone in one shot, being able to down a FT in one charged direct shot in the game is acceptable, because the plasma caster is supposed to be a Predator’s most deadly weapon.
Now let’s see how you can down someone with it: You charge a shot, wait 3 seconds for it, give away your position, forsee the movement of the FT so you can have a notion when the shot will land, aim in less then 3 seconds to prevent to waste your shot, lose alot of energy and then you shot. You have a very small window to charge and shot, you expose yourself while doing it and gamble if you’ll be able to have a direct hit or not, all of this to one certain but risky opportunity, if the FT is careless and don’t watch eachothers back, then you can capitalize on this mistake, aim properly and have a guaranteed FT to claim.
Now you can go through all of these risks only to get a damage on them with a charged shot, while the FT aims at you with their weapons and trades shots with you. So instead of carefully placed shots with high risk and high reward, now you have a automatic plasma caster meta, while using the plasma caster only as a support to other weapons instead of being it’s own thing that should be a reason to be careful.
Downing someone with the Plasma caster in one shot required either skill or a FT not taking you seriously.
I liked AVP 2010
