It’s surprising to see so many people not understand how big of a deal offline single player is. Doesn’t have to be a full fledged campaign with cutscenes. Just a simple bot mode.
Yes they should focus on what we have now, trying to put the game in a better state. But I think any sane person knows that’s going to take a long, long time before we even get there. And while adding more content for multiplayer is definitely a must, that doesn’t necessarily mean they should never work on an offline single player mode. It is possible for them to work on multiple things at once. It doesn’t require the entire team’s attention and effort.
All they really have to work on is the AI. Which of course isn’t something done over a weekend. But it won’t take as long as people think, nor will it really pull any attention from the multiplayer. Hell if anything it’ll probably help the multiplayer because it’ll mean we can get improvements to the AI we have now. And who knows, maybe bots can fill in empty spaces.
So why is something like a simple bot mode so good? Well, let’s say that hypothetically, for whatever reason, they shut down the servers soon. Without a bot mode, you’re fucked. You’d feel like you just rented the game for a couple months. And now you can’t play it. Now let’s say that happened, but they added a bot mode just before. Well now you can actually play the game for as long as you like. Even with the servers down. And because of that very reason alone, I fail to see how adding such a mode is a bad thing people are making it out to be.
But not only that, adding an offline mode will get more people into this game. I guarantee there’s a fair bit of people that haven’t gotten this game because it’s multiplayer only. So appealing to those people and giving them a reason to buy the game will help in the long run. And it’ll mean they can support it for longer.
