Carpenter always said even he didn’t know, but I think he said recently that neither were? If you count the videogame which is Canon? Childs was human and mac survived.

In the commentary with Russell and carpenter, they admit the movie wasn’t as deep as people thought and the cast and crew spent most of their time trying to figure it out themselves 😁

Somehow I couldn’t get into it, I tried watching season 1, got into half of it, but it just didn’t hook me in. Quality and acting is great here, but maybe the setting just didn’t hook me in, I’m not sure, but overall, yes, good show :)
