Nothing wrong with a dry rub salt/pepper/garlic/onion powder. Salt as soon as you pull out of fridge. Let sit till room temp, then rub the rest in and let it go.

That was my thought. The only time steak is ever cooked well done is when its left overs and you are making steal sandwiches or steak and eggs. Only time my steal is anything over rare. Shit Ill even eat a black and blue steak if im in the mood, nothing like a slightly seared steak that 98% raw from time to timr

Just try it my way once. You can go just past medium if you prefer, but don’t make it bloody. It takes away from the buttery/salty goodness.
