Stereotypical French to refuse to speak English. :> I remember several years ago at work there were French truck drivers who came to pick up stuff and they never spoke a word, not even when greeted, they just handed over a piece of paper with an address on it. They also had cigarettes in their mouth everytime you saw them. xD
German and Polish truck drivers were the best though, so nice and funny, they also had cheap and good alcohol for sale. :D
