The Elder in AVP was a Ancient, and is even Clan Leader’s personal advisor. Greyback was just a Elder. Even in Society, Ancient is above him, but neither are pushovers at all.

Nightstorm wouod be quite old. He is probably long dead, Mr. Black was the current leader during the events of the movie. So, either he challenged him and won or Nightstorm died and he was next in line.
