At least in USA, attorney is used for a corporation’s (or mainly government) lawyer, while lawyer is reserved for that who is representing an individual.
Example: “District Attorney”
In spanish is easier
Fiscal = Attorney
Abogado = Lawyer
“Fiscal” is the government employee who’s responsible to prove, without reasonable doubt, that the accused is guilty. “Abogado” is the defendant of the individual being accused who’s responsibility is to prove there is either doubt about guilt or innocence
