The legal system in Germany is completely different from that of the USA or UK.
You have a “case law” - that’s not true for Germany. Accordingly the terms are not really comparable.
Here everybody who speaks up for somebody can be called “Anwalt” (e.g. “Anwalt der kleinen Leute”) but normally with “Anwalt” one means “Rechtsanwalt” (Recht = Law).
Such a “Rechtsanwalt” is anybody who studied law - a professional.
A “Rechtsanwalt” working for the state to enforce criminal law is called “Staatsanwalt” (Staat = country).
There is no differentiation between “Rechtsanwälten” who work for individuals or for companies or alike. They all are “Rechtsanwälte”. “Rechtsanwaelte” speak up for offenders as well as for victims.
It’s really interesting to hear, how the terminology differ from that in the USA!

Oh yes, I do understand that - I learned French 3 years in school - it was the third foreign language then and being no talented linguist I then was not too interested in doing more then necessary to pass the tests… But some time ago, I started to learn French again - in my spare time.
