Good thing it’s not just PHG.
Something going on?
Leave it.
It’s not worth it.
He discovered internet today …
we were all wondering when we will get the update .Now we are all wondering when we will be able to play the game 🤡
Correct, but with them being a business that needs this service up and running for paying customers, youd expect them to be chasing up AWS to see when they would possibly have more of a closer eta in regards to things going back to normal.
Instead of the usual customer service answers we ourselves get from internet service providers.
This is just very weird… and so awkward customer service wise…
Everything else? Absolutely everything else, not one other thing other than PHG? Have you checked everything else?
Bro , look at all the times the matchmaking has shit the bed and compare it to the AW outage reports . They went for the money saving route , they only pay for servers as they fluctuate with active players
You think illfonic has more money than Slack?
ROTFLMFAO
It is about SLA, not who has more money.
Is a different thing. @Elliott626 is talking about AWS sharing ETA and information to illfonic on what is wrong on their end because illfonic has “paying customers”… as if Slack and other vendors don’t have more muscle power to demand the same because they make 20 times the money illfonic makes.
At the end of the day, Amazon will fix their shit as soon as they can, because each second they don’t do it they lose money. They don’t care who the customers are or who is “more important”. Nor will they likely share the internal details of what the problem is, regardless.
Think you’re taking this way too deep.
From my own personal experience dealing with internet providers as a customer, surely businesses have priority due to the amount of money they are paying for service to provide for other people.
That’s all… : /
Sorry, you are just comparing apples and oranges. Is not just one service that is down, is several, because the problem is not with a single service, but a whole data center from Amazon (US-EAST-1 in Virginia). Services are usually split among different data centers around the globe, that’s why many services are not down, but degraded. Meaning some services are temporarily available in certain regions or people may have been experiencing troubles connecting. Trust me, PHG has been the least of my worries today. Had to deal all day without remote access to many computers because the service we use to connect (ConnectWise) was degraded and wouldn’t even let us remote in. Today was a nightmare day for IT as most people don’t understand is not something we can resolve and not even the vendors, but Amazon itself. I had to deal with like 100 tickets regarding all this and every single one of them was out of my hands to resolve. People are very impatient.
I mean… so are you? Lmao
Don’t understand how a simple statement turns into a paragraph response… didn’t even read past this line tbh.
They share same amount of information to every customer and the information is “we don’t know ETA, we are working on that”. During such major problems they simply don’t know. Unless for some specific cases like if they are restoring data from backup (which gives them some usable ETA).
AWS does not give a fuck about “paying customers” because they are not their customers. For AWS customers are Illfonic, Slack and thousands of other companies. With these companies they have SLA which tells maximum allowed outage and penalty if they exceed guaranteed fix time. Slack may be bigger than Illfonic, however Illfonic is AWS’s reference customer so they may get priority over Slack. I highly doubt there was some AWS customer which got priority, because outage was not so long so they had not enough time to do such measures to decrease damage (by reducing fees by starting bigger companies first or reducing impact on AWS name by starting more known companies first).
Something happened here… I was told I got replies but I see nothing…
You can find articles on illfonic talking about AWS .
They built their game solely with AWS and lied about its efficiency.
Oh yea the whole AI parrying me? I aint never see that happen after the fact. Illfonic is like mmm your done. unplugs
It was so funny man.
That one AI was like:
-“I ve had it with these assholes decimating our proud people every single day!
I 've seen how they do it! I am taking the initiative!!!”
-“Shit! Joe! What do you think you 're doing man?!? They will pull the pl…”
-“LEEROOOOOOOY JEEEEEEEEEENKIIIIIIIIINS!!!”
AI: approaches
Me: pulls out minigun
AI: oh, u want some of this? Points rifle at me
Me: opens fire and blasts ai to smithereens
Silence
I don’t understand what they lied about?
You can buy server hardware, install OS, get some serverhousing (rent a place in datacenter with internet connectivity, power and cooling), interconnect servers, add some firewalls/load balancers, install your application (game) and do some management of starting virtual servers/games for each match. Then handle hardware issues, OS updates and mitigating attacks against your infrastructure. That cost a lot of money (they claim it cost 3x monthly salary of system administrator) and especially it requires broad knowledge (HW, SW, networking, balancing, security, etc.). Plus you need to duplicate your platform around the world in Asia, Australia, Europe, US, etc.
Or you can rent all above as service and that is what Illfonic did. They probably got some SDK or API to simply manage game servers and match making. It may cost them same amount of money like if they did everything by themselves, but they didn’t have to look for and pay 3 highly educated system administrators/network engineers.
I can read between lines that it was quite new AWS product and they had some issues (somebody designed some feature which was not usable when they used it in real scenario, so they had to redesign that), however developers at AWS were able to fix issues. We don’t know if some match making issues were caused by AWS too or if it was all Illfonic implementation failures.
From my point of view, it was vise decision to use AWS. I think the game would not be running online at all if Illfonic did all server related tasks by themselves.
