The RED COMET challenge

But you sure reek of one

Cow bebop is about bounty hunters in the future.

Samurai champloo is about samurai.

The thing Is, these two dont have over the top typical anime themes and what not.

Like if they made a proper love action you wouldnt even be able to tell it originated from an anime.

And I take it that you learned about these because they were popular at the time?

I learned about them when they first aired on adult swim.

Years ago. Over a decade

Hahaha… sigh… You’re funny

Not trying to be funny.
I used to watch a lot anime as a kid

I watched anime as a 2 year old.

1st anime watched as a full series for me was
Dragon Quest: Legend of the Hero Abel

It is still a very watchable series today.
That was in 89! That was when Burtons Batman came out!

So basically you were a dbz fan before dbz came out

DBZ was fucked up in a existential way that a boy my age at the time wouldn’t understand. I probably would now as an adult or during my curious teen years.
Dragon Quest:ABel was more Nintendo than DBZ. DBZ was borderline on the fringes of controversial design. I’m thinking it rode the rails of Fist of the North Star and Akira. It was too on the fridges of violent or incomprehensibleness.
I mean Fist isn’t even consider to be western mainstream. DBZ is also not really mainstream until the mid 2010s or something. It probably took Powerpuff Girls to realy break in some of the J-anime stuff.

At the time the only thing that made it in North America was alot of Sailor Moon/transformers. After that was probably POkemon then Powerpuff Girls…and then more global stuff like Samurai Jack and Avatar the Last airbender.

The worse part is after all the Mario stuff, even Legend of Zelda never made it as a popular character in both the east or west. Nintendo only made lots of product on playable merch. Like scratch and reveal trading cards and games. Not so much as animes or cartoons sadly.
I guess the market for Zelda bridged too much into Elves and trolls and European tropes and Europe had yet to land in the global market with LOTR yet. Thats where their Ranken Bass studios LOTR kicked in too! There was a huge audience there so all the money and investment had to go northward to Europe.

So lots of interest and cartoons were made at Rankin Bass. Thundercats, Tiger Sharks, LOTRs.
After all of that there were all the merchable toons like Transformers, Voltron, M.A.S.K., GEm and the Holograms, Visionaries:, Gobots! Then the rest is history. This shit lasted like well into the mid 90s. Then the comics boom and speculation era happened and everything went to comics!
The Marvel workforce went to Image well into the 2000s making quite alot of money selling lots of titles, and then they all went bust because the products went over their heads. The quality sucked because they tried too much to keep everything localized.
Things were becoming geared to children…then before you know it the money spending consumers weren’t interested. They went to gaming and the CGI film industry!

Gaming took off…took forever to get to where it is today.
