1899 on Netlflix: AN ANALOGY OR A FEVER DREAM?

Did anyone watch that show created by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar.? What the hell was that about?

i was left with some MEGA unanswered questions.
Like what the hell was the matter of the languages? What was the politics between them and house!? OMG THE HOUSE?!!!? House being the ships (the main and the lost ship)

It got cancelled but the hell. I think there was some hella potential here!

The worst thing here is that intentially, shows this mysterious end up getting cancelled because they were intended to be short stories.
Back in the day, short stories were ideas and concepts too taboo to be talked about. Ended up in the dollar bin.
But really, shit like this had a load of political drama and inuendo that people didn’t’ get or weren’t ready for.

The main theme song had the Mammas and pappas song referencing that Alice in Wonderland motif: “Feed your head” lyric going on over and over again.

WHAT IS THE RESULT OF THE IDEA?
Is it journey of two ships on their way to a destination during a time of scientific uncertainty?
Two ships lost in uncertainty of scientific discovery?

The worst thing about this show was that every character had no place in the shows narrative. Edited with intent, but there was a poor choice of ideas that needed to stick together but didn’t.
There were Queer notions within characters, and poltiical issues that couldn’t be explored simply because the issues are politically sensitive. Ideas of family that are push and pull between idealogies of nationality and faith. I think it ended because of this and no happy ending could be explored unless it exists as a documentary about modern exposition.

Topics of discussion are :
Two ships, the Kerberos and the Prometheus meet on the ocean. One, the Prometheus has been reported missing for 4 months. The other find its vessel, derelict and have their people investigate it.
Topics of Discussion:

  • Paradoxical The Prometheus carried 1423 passengers, and when they find it most apart from one child are dead
  • Time/Space The two ships interacts with each other between space and time
  • Virtual Identities Spoilers abound, virtual space might be intertwined between the ship. It is not known whether they are spiritual or digital. Most likely digital. Thats when the series ends.

Is this show just a fever dream?

Seriously? That sounds fucking awesome!! I noped out of Netflix for several reasons but I will give them credit for their in-house productions because some of them have been Hollywood level awesome.

PERIPHERAL was a really good show on Amazon but they cancelled that after season 1 as well. I fucking hate these subscription services with every fibre in my being for this reason alone. The number of shows I’ve really gotten into that have been cancelled should be criminalised for consumer abuse or something. There was a show on some small fry channel a decade or so ago where they used smartdust particles in the air as a surveillance system, there was a Class societal system and one of the lower class dudes was trying to go against the system. It was mindblowing but got cancelled at the end of season 1 (probably because it was being too close to reality!! lol).

I’m going to download this 1899 now, I swear if this is another of your fucking trolls Mass then we are finished and I will never love you again!

It had followable story line definitely. I watched it too. I think it was a William Gibson novel at first. So no doubt, people are taking ideas from idea people who definitely paved the way for good story plots when it was impossible at the time to acheive visuals in film and television.

This deserves to be read, heard and this show needs a Season 2 and I haven’t even watched it yet. Appreciated Mass, you diamond in the rough that you are.
