Add Predator awareness to FT

In the movies, especially the first. Dutch and his team look directly at the Predator a few times in the beginning, and fail to see it. Its not till they are aware that something is out there. That they begin to look harder and spot the Predator.

This should be the way it works in the game. The FT shouldn’t be able to spot/track/find something they don’t know even exists till they are exposed to it over the course of the match.

At the start as a FT member you could look right at the Predator cloaked and not see it, you shouldn’t be able to identify Predator technology and sounds. Though as the match progresses and the Predator reveals itself, your awareness meter should rise to the point where cloak is just a shimmer and easy to spot, you know what a motion detector is and can hear when the Predator is near.

I think canonically speaking, this game takes place after Dutch’s run in with the Predator and so it is safe to assume the humans are very aware and already know a great deal about the Predators.

Prehaps, but not the FT judging by their reactions, and the FTs remarks when contacted by OWLF when they down the Predator. They were clueless.

In the context of the movie it works pretty well and build up tension and atmosphere but movie is a different medium–in there the way things are implied, then shown have its own way and pace…and can be put together by the multuple characters’ viewpoints.

Now in this game, there wouldn’t be enough time to ilustrate your idea in a way that allows both parties to engage accordingly and “equally”-- as well it would add a balance gap (something so-heated discussed in this forum).

Edited: typos

that moment when people want balance between an inter-galactic hunting alien elite and humans lol

Yeah, the OWLF tapes explain about how SPOILERS Dutch has been leading them in expeditions to hunt Predators and sharing his insights… I won’t go on, but there’s a lot in the tapes that would explain certain things in the game.

There’s that also. But that never made sense that they didn’t know who OWLF were even though they’re part of the plan to lure the Predator into an area for capture and retrieval? I guess they’ve been trained to be super aware and vigilant of advanced camo (the Fireteam and AI even comment this when they see the Predator) but probably weren’t told it was advanced ALIEN technology…

Edit: I realised I started two separate replies with “Yeah,” and it looked dumb.

i think the predator cloak could be greatly enhanced and instead of outlining him when spotted it could make his cloak visible as it is now which would be A. not as broken as spotting and B. more like the movies when they learn to identify his cloak.

sure… but fix the cloak shadow lol

You idea is interesting. Not sure how it would work in the game, but on paper looks very interesting. So what would affect your awarness meter? Pred decloaking in front of you? Or attacking?

the refraction of the cloak is a little extreme in the game and can seem pretty random at times i feel.

I guess you’re missing the point, this is a game after all, thereto it’s expected that somehow and somewhat both parties to have chances of winning when playing against each other–otherwise as you’ve mentioned, the odds of a group of humans fight a Predator and win are so minimal that perhaps the game itself shouldn’t exist as it’s not “realistic” enough, but well…

I see the idea, and it’s a good one. But in the movies, the Predator wasn’t running around and leaping through all the trees right in their line of sight. He moved slowly, patiently and at a distance.

Predator players should try being patient, sitting on top of a building while the FT are battling AI. As long as you don’t move, you’re invisible. Sure you make the mandible sounds, but that just puts the Fireteam on edge because they know you’re around but have no idea where. And if you’re not engaging them, it’s even more anxiety inducing because you’re wondering why they haven’t attacked. Audio decoys can easily disorientate the team, I’ve been pinned by one losing my mind trying to spot the Predator when he was in the other part of the map butchering the team. A great play.
Eventually we either make mistakes because we are panicked and under pressure, or because we get complacent.
Maybe the spotting duration could be progressive? Like, the first time you spot them it’s doesn’t last at all but the more you successfully spot the Predator the longer you get the spot mechanics?? There would need to be a cooldown between each spot to prevent the inevitable spamming for the progression…

Just my 2 cents.
