After using ammo crates

So after using an ammo crate lets say for 1 use.

If you had 1 nade left before using the crate that new nade you picked up. You will be unable to cook the nade because you auto throw it instead.

But the nade you already had prior to using the ammo crate you will be able to cook it

So cook is holding the nade till it auto throws
