Greek mythology has great stories. From how the universe came to be to wars, love, curses etc.
King Midas is a great example on how greed and wealth can be a curse.
Short story.
A certain Greek God couldn’t find his child, so he asked great King Midas for help.
The King sent his soldiers and they found the child. Midas treated that child like it’s his own.
Then God, in order to show gratitude, he said to Midas, “I will grant you whatever you desire”
Midas, being the great king, he said “I want a certain gift”. “Everything I touch shall turn into gold”.
His wish was granted and everything he touched turned to gold. Later he realized that he couldn’t eat on his own, because of his gift, so he had servants feeding him.
After some time, his only daughter came back from the trip. Ecstatic to see his father after a long time, she rushed into her father’s arms and Midas not thinking, he hugged his only daughter, just to watch her turn to gold.
Devastated, he asked the God to take away his gift, because he lost the only thing that had value, his daughter.
