Just to add, I think reason AVP spear was in The Predator was the idea to reboot the AVP franchise as well, to give it new life. I am not sure if in The Predator AVP2 was considered cannon due to Black mentioning it. Then again this was all before changes were made to movie by the studio who thought a suit was good idea, and the alternate endings that would of made sense logically unless time travel. I think the studio heads sometimes just think by adding certain things people will flock to it.

I do believe most, including the industry now making the new movie, consider The Predator to not be cannon (at least most parts)

Canon is everything shown to the audience on screen. Unless they do reboot the franchise, which is unlikely. The things people dislike, can for the most part, be dismissed as speculation by uninformed characters.
Even Assassin/Hybrid can be made into a one off or special case in the lore.
Disney is likely to keep all previous movies, including the AVP ones as canon. They’ll do it for a number of reasons but the two most important ones are, money and control. Money because box sets are standard and worth more complete. Control is trickier, future movies are likely to continue having call backs because it allows them legal arguments if any part of the license is disputed. (The Alien licence could be in the future and having them connected is beneficial).
I think if PHG doesn’t get them, it will be because the game failed to set minimum sales goals… or the Alien game that’s coming blows any chance of them coming here by being ridiculously successful.

Idk, new film will be making movie in the past, so I don’t think it will be much than a stand alone film. The heads at Fox before The Predator wanted to do full remake of original, Black convinced them not do it. Looking at past history they had issues with series in terms of interest, there is a AVP Galaxy interview with one of the Lost Tribe members who said back when AVP was in making of , he asked an produce what plans were for Predator. He has some ideas, and producer told him at time that studio wasn’t trying to be connected with those films and wanted be associated with others.

There is probably a whole license thing going on, especially now the original screens writers soon of Predator film can get back a huge amount of control back, due to the 27 legal terms that alot of screen writers found out about. Which explains the F13 incident with original producer not wanting to continue with game. I think AVP is under a different license as it seems like every time they do a project with it they always go into separate categories. Like AlienTM, PredatorTM, AVPTM depending what lore is from each movie in current project.

For me, I wish to see the original ending of The Predator, as much as people jumped to conclusions on the Emissaries, would might of seen more of parts of the Predator culture with the clan wars mentioning. Instead of confusing people with re-shoots that make issues for the film storyline. I think we may see the concepts and pics from it if Titan Books does release the behind the scenes of the series including all the movies.
