Gringo is used in all Latin America to describe a white person from the USA. Itā€™s not an insult.

Jelou is right, you canā€™t dictate how people from a different culture use certain words or what they mean to them.

Iā€™ll give you an example, people in Latin America, regardless of skin color or ethnic background, are described by the words Hispanic or Latino. I personally donā€™t call myself Hispanic for historical reasons, I dislike that word. I donā€™t feel offended if someone calls me Hispanic, I just donā€™t like it, I prefer to be called Latino.

Jelou is Puerto Rican, Iā€™m Salvadorian. Even tho weā€™re both Latinos or ā€œHispanicā€, our cultures are very different. Even the way we speak Spanish is night and day, but we understand each other 100%

Point is, stop assuming you know certain things about other cultures.

Not at all he doesnā€™t know where Iā€™m at what I do and Iā€™m aloud to do this my bosses been laughing the whole time says heā€™s a punk and itā€™s definitely discriminative if this happens at a work place he would have been fired no questions asked

Iā€™ve literally had Spanish cultures from Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Dominican republican, & Guatemala they all told me never to let anyone call you a gringo itā€™s racist term and discriminative The origins of the word do not have an affect it is what it means today in the context of it

Now because your boy was caught slipping itā€™s not?

In short, it doesnā€™t matter in todayā€™s society. You have the slur and thatā€™s that.

Why did he even have to use the word gringo then? The original term doesnā€™t fit me at all bro so what then?

Those people are wrong, their words donā€™t carry any more weight than mine. They probably meant if someone is angry at you, of course in can be offensive depending on how they use it.

As someone said before, it all depends on context.

Look itā€™s wrong he messed up got over worked about a situation and thatā€™s all Iā€™m trying to prove he didnā€™t have to call me a gringo though itā€™s definitely not cool and if I would ever do something like that everyone would jump my shit fuck I canā€™t even have my shit taken without people jumping my shit because Iā€™m telling them like the faq?

Then yā€™all come off like this like are you kidding me?

I really donā€™t know how everything started, but just understand that what I said is correct.

I can say ā€œuna persona blanca de los Estados Unidosā€ or I can simply say Gringo without insulting anyone.
