An Old, Odd Idea

I honestly don’t know if this goes in Off-Topic or General Discussion, but eh, I’m sure few won’t mind.

So far, I’ve been enjoying the game. There’ve been a few odds and ends where I’ve been left annoyed and, sometimes things don’t work out, but I usually assume it’s my own skill to be the cause, and not a game bug…except a few times.

Moving on, this game reminded me that, deep in the recesses of my flash drive, I found an old draft for a Predator novel I was working on, and the nostalgia and fun parts from this game made me consider giving it another crack. I’ve spoke with Dark Horse and Titan a while back and, for the most part, the former seems alright with it, but I’d like to hear from some die-hard fans on if I should pursue this risky venture, or throw the draft back into the archives and forget about it?

Any feedback would be nice. And I hope you’re all staying safe. World’s gotten crazier and a bit more dangerous as of late, sadly.

Sounds great I’d keep working if I where you lmao just don’t be to crazy and over board when writing about this franchise I’m up for all ideas but if it’s anything like pred killa no. But anything else is fine to add just make the preds follow the code and shit and it would work out lol and if your not planning on adding some crazy shit lol and are just making a story on a hunt from either a humans or preds perspective good luck man it sounds like a great idea 👍😂

(If your not a die hard fan and don’t know much lmao just ask anytime lmao I love all pred lore)

The “main” thing is I’d be taking a different route and making the entire novel from the Pred PoV, like Concrete Jungle was, originally supposed to be. I was just torn between AvP or Predator because the former hasn’t had anything about it for the last ten years and I figured people would crave to see that.

Besides, so far, I got a fair distance into the draft before I stopped working, so I’m tempted to just move to pursue it over the AvP idea.

I’d love some AVP content

Hmm, my recommendation as to how best proceed needs more information…Are you a professional writer? What do you write professionally? How long will this writing project be compared to the longest project you’ve completed?

Whatever you’ve written can’t be any worse than the ‘Shame’ Black movie.

To answer Jysty’s question, I’m not “professional”, by which I mean I haven’t gotten anything published under an IP, but I’m currently working on some professional content, namely writing a novella for Takamo Universe, a sci fi MMO. I can’t give any details of said novella out as that’d violate my NDA but, at the very least, I can say I’m working on it.

Once all other projects are completed, I’d work at a rate of 2k words a day so, if the book were to be 70k long it would take me under two months to have a rough draft at the ready, not counting lapses and potential interruptions. This current project took a touch longer because I was asked to have a chapter up weekly, instead of a set amount to write daily.

And I can do AvP or Predator; I have notes for both rough drafts. I’m just trying to figure which would be smarter as, due to the Disney thing, they currently hold the rights and it’s unclear what their intentions are with them, though if we’re using the quality of their recent works, I’m not holding my breath.

Alright, change of plans. Dark Horse doesn’t publish AvP content anymore so, now, seems the only one left is Titan Books, and I’m still waiting to hear back from them on this subject. So, that’s disheartening to know.

Positive its better than the corporate slog James Moore shits out for a paycheck.

You can do it OP

I guess you’re right. I’ll finish up my professional project and see about hitting the drawing board again. Fans’ve been craving content from the Pred PoV for years and, I guess, I can be the one to deliver.

If you can actually describe settings you’re already superior to the current pred novels we’ve got set in nondescript jungles with some cheesy dialogue strewn in between xd

I’m all about the Halo novels but I can’t sit through Moore’s work for the life of me its just miserable.
He goes nondescript scene -> internal monologue -> dialogue -> vague description of character -> internal monologue -> dialogue -> transition to next scene
Then if there’s violence its “nondescript character is stabbed and in this process they died” and then the same thing happens to the next undeveloped generic character. Idk if its just his prose or what. Very worksmanlike. And the pred PoV is nonexistent probably because he cannot write without an overreliance on dialogue internal or external.

Honestly, I’m surprised no one’s tried writing from the Pred PoV; it’s clear their thought process is similar to a human’s aside from some tweaks and changes, so it’s not impossible to write.

And I do what I can to describe things as a "flow’, by which I mean I convey to the reader things the character would notice, but nothing more. This way, it feels more natural because one would take very little time in describing their room but, of course, take a bit longer describing a jungle or a mire.

But, I guess, with this motivation I need to decide: Aliens vs Predator or Predator? I have stuff for both, as I said before, but I should figure out which the fans would care for more.

After some deliberation, I’ve come to a decision.

I’m going to opt for an AvP novel, for numerous reasons that, for time sensitive readers, I’ll include in the form of a bullet list.

  • The Predator novel, on closer inspection, gets sort of out of hand, having a setting like Concrete Jungle’s, but far more expanded and, therefore, potentially excessive. Therefore, such a thing could lead to a disconnect, which would spur readers away.
  • The AvP novel is more “based” and is far more feasible, that and it offers more creative liberties within reason.
  • Using AvP over Predator grants an increased arsenal, such as the whip and a few others, as I wanted to disinclude weapons featured in AvP for the Predator novel. Why? Felt fair…aaaaaand including the whip in a Predator novel would be weird as they’re supposedly made from Xenomorph tails.

As I said before, I’ll work on this extensively after my current project concludes. I may also, possibly, post a synopsis here. If it gets swiped, oh well; I haven’t made a lot of progress yet and it still means an AvP novel regardless.

A futurish AvP with colonial marines and such? Or a modern day story on Earth?

Former; if I’m doing a novel I’d have to follow the normal canon. Not the movies’ canon.

I’ve made good strides with things and, so far, have 80% of the novel plotted out. Potentially, I may try and bump Illfonic about this too and see if they’d be willing to hear me out; the odds of them actually reading this are, remarkably, less than zero, but eh; may work, may not work.

After all, sometimes the best ones to write a novel are devote fans; they won’t steer it wrong.
