Anyone traveled to Europe during the pandemic?

Hi all,

I’m about a week away from getting on a plane to Europe.

Long and short of it is that I’m looking to reconcile with my ex, we will be staying at a hotel for a week and celebrating NYE together. Over the past few days, I’ve developed a nagging feeling that I’m going to be stopped at Customs, despite the fact that I’ll have all of my paperwork in order and family reunification is considered “essential travel” for countries part of the Schengen Agreement.

I’ll have my COVID test, return flight, and room reservation information, and her information at the ready. Has anyone had any issues with this as a US citizen?

Not looking for binding legal advice, just some reassurance, or things you can think of. I’ve checked with the immigration officials of her home nation and it looks like I’m in the clear, but still, these admissions are based solely at the discretion of the border/customs official. This is probably anxiety/paranoia because of how badly I want this to work out.

Thanks all,
Khi

Thanks, @Fire, you know the situation as well as anyone.

I’ve had nightmares of being stopped at the border and not being allowed in to see her each of the past three nights.

Fucking nerves.

Only travelled during early stages of the pandemic but let us know of they hold you hostage at customs xd

Just make sure they don’t have a policy where you have to quaratine at arrival and you should be fine if you jumped all the other hoops already.

I think the quarantine would only be required if I didn’t have a negative COVID test, but then again, who fucking knows? 😂

Her home nation, Portugal, is the subject of quite a bit of ridicule/commentary because of how muddled their entry requirements are. 😣

Hopefully it works out for you

I have no idea, but I honestly wish you the best of luck!

My girlfriend’s in France and due to my country’s border restrictions, means I’m not allowed to leave. Can’t wait for this shit to all be over!

Update - On Sunday I was denied boarding based upon word from the consulate in my home state.

I was very disappointed, but I researched and contacted the Embassy in the United States, received approval for my documents, and have been allowed to board.

Wish me luck, y’all!

I’m back on the road and heading home tonight, landing in the United States at 12:00AM EST.

This was a unique experience for me, as I got to see how other countries are dealing with the pandemic compared to the United States.

Something very cool - I was shown kindness by a stranger at each of the stops I made during my journey.

I have a lot of great stories to share with the Melon Men upon my return! 🍉
