Ive seen ppl say its like feral predator then ive seen some saying its similiar to stan winstons, but tmif that is really the predator in that still shot then im willing to bet its Dans idea of what predator should be which is his shit design same like the killer of killers where 2 of the 3 preds have the “proportioned” head size and thin dreds. Tbf, some folks are not Predator fans but movie goers and can’t precisely tell you if the Predator looks like Stan Winston’s design or the Feral design, it all looks like Predator to them. I just know that Dan said about leaning into Winston’s old design based on the last interview AVPGalaxy had with him.
Also, seeing people here shitting on the art direction is kind of funny when the point of animation is to do interesting new stylized concepts. I mean look at Fisk in Spiderverse…

Stone heart looks like a predator whos dreds are gone he doesnt look like a human with mandibles so that takes care of that. The buff predator was the only one who looks like a predator. The fact fans are ok with every change is why they keep doin it and its never a better reimagined version. So all of your contrarian arguments are not applicable. I don’t see how he looks human at all here. If anything, after all this time, this Predator actually got the X non broken mandibles I seen in a while. Like he actually brought them back unlike Feral’s mandibles that just tucked to the sides. I also see the dread studds behind his head like right there, idk how you miss that. It’s shaven off just like Stoneheart’s so again, I really don’t see nothing wrong here.
Idk man, when Cameron said to himself the reason why he made Terminator 2 is for the challenge of making the Terminator, the coldest badest motherfuckers out there into something we can root for, he made one of the best sequels around. Personally, I think the best sequel to any film ever.
Also are we even misreading his last article? He is taking out concepts from the EU itself and last I check, Predators even allied with humans, aren’t exactly buddy buddy with each other. It’s never been a real “friendship” of any kind, and I don’t even see that here either. Nothing here is being recreated, its being expanded upon.

I was referring to people describing how the Predator in the new film looks like to them. Regulars ain’t hooked up on the stuff like that, but the fans are more keen on it. It’s why I am not so overblown on this as I know regular movie goers don’t register these things hence why I take “It looks like Feral” with a grain of salt. They are not going to look at the deeper details, only that it has mandibles and has dreads.
Both examples are him bald and big, but the animated one is super exaggerated…cuz thats what art does in animation, make it more fun and interesting. Same shit here with the new upcoming title. Not a huge deal. Getting all stressed out isn’t good for ya, this is going to be an interesting and fun film and I’m glad at it getting a huge positive response. I don’t see Dek or Fanning’s character making jokes, I don’t see the Predator looking more human, and I don’t see anything wrong with trying out a new art direction. I feel like alot of these points are hugely exaggerated.

Ok i see here you comin from but the main points to counter would be no director in todays day can match up with 80s-90s james cameron his record is proven with him making 2 of the best sequels in history. As far as the bald headed predator its his head look at the head compared to stone heart, dan literally said he always thought stans proportions were off and should be scaled down to match…completely ignoring 2 main points 1. I mean James Cameron today isn’t matching up with his 80s 90s version of himself either. The last Avatar movie was fun but not super deep, least to me anyway.
I don’t think it should be 1 to 1 with humans either but I get called a wokie if I say that the female Predators should be taller and stronger than the males for some reason, rather than it makes sense for them to be aliens and help strengthen how alien they are to human physiology. Hyenas have that exact same body plan but people ain’t out here calling out Hyenas as being woke lol.
Can I look at that article that says Stan’s proportions were off? I wanna read that to be sure. Seems odd for him to say.
As for the Predator “smiling”, under the right circumstances, thats a terrifying concept if you look at it as it’s the last thing you gonna see as it rips you apart. Like serial killer mad man type of smile. I recall old comics had a few of them smiling too and it was kind of fucked up non comical type of situation. Again, people can talk about the designs but least Dan understood that the Predator’s nature is a hunter killer. I don’t see it doing any crazy jokes or of the sort. All I know is that people who seen the trailer says that its going to be a fun one, and obviously it had no Predators cracking jokes of the sort so idk. I recall that people here had made some exaggerated claims about Prey and it came out as a smash hit.

And predator smiling, it was given context to have the audience empathize with predator. Go read the article above. I took screen shots of the worst parts that had me feeling worried. Again i want it to be good, but when they’re already screwing up basic things that made predator what it is, then yea ima call it, yea it wont change nothin but we know how this goes already with star wars being the most notorius at least so far. Well in the recent article right here, he is rather in fact looking to build upon the design for Badlands rather than drastically change it. No, he never downplayed the design, rather realizes the limitations of practical and is trying to hybridize both CGI and practical to give the best possible Predator facial movement. And if you recall back in past films where mandibles were loose, doesn’t close properly, or the skin flaps were loose like in AVP, then you realize upgrading the craft is an actual positive move.
I will admit that personally I would have had them rewrite their own emotions rather than copy and paste human emotions. Like smiling at chimps for example means you are calling them out for a fight and they don’t take that kind of disrespect. Funny how this was actually touched on in the original AVP novel The Hunt, where Dachande wondered why did Machiko smile at him so much, as he took it as disrespect at first till he realized it means a positive gesture in human terms. This is the kind of interactions that I’m hoping for with Dek and Thia, like actual cultural clashes. Again, I will wait and see.
The only emote I want to see on a Pred’s face is this, after seeing what’s happening to his franchise.

Thats not the article where he said he thought stans dimentions were off and need to be scaled down but as far as your poont about the mandibles not being able to be repeated from the jungle hunter is one id agree with as someone has already done that with all the predators to show how they should look. So yea again this isnt the article where he downplayed winstons design it was when prey was released so this article i used to reference the horrible decisions of what thier doin to predator
And the facial expressions part, yea that avp dachande and machiko cultural differences would be the proper way to do it, but again we cant forget the casting call trait of “strong comedic chops” so im jus considering everything from dans comments on why he chanhed what he changed, post damage control with cookin up a story of why he looks different, which came AFTER the backlash, his recent comments on things regarding badlands. So that being said, yea im more worried than excited. We will see and i hope its done correctly cus other than horrible designs the concept itself of fighting alien monsters then the hunting in different time periods is badass the only thing that might take me out the immersion is everytime “predator” shows up and its not thee predator that the world over has come to recognize and love.
