BEAR TRAPS + ELDERSWORD IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE!

I made a small video showcasing what I believe to be the strongest way to melee the fireteam (even better than the combistick!) using the hunter predator and the eldersword. I personally believe this method is much stronger than the combistick as the eldersword deals alot more damage than the combistick and downs fireteam members so much faster. The Eldersword’s only problem is it’s bad range but with beartraps and chokepoints, it’s so easy to down an entire team within seconds. Feel free to check out the video and let me know what you think!

Nice video, bro! If only we could throw the sword like with the Combistick… :P

Try bear trap with war club. Sounds much more dangerous. If I had the chance to play as the Predator, I’d use this load out. So throw one back for me, ok?
I have this load out equipped just in case the no preference actually places me as the Predator.

I was actually planning to do a warclub video, feel like I’m gonna be in for a surprise tho :P

War club absolutely wrecks so long as you don’t go for that third strike that takes forever and leaves you vulnerable. Elder sword is my go to since I use it mainly for hit and run as scout.

Definitely going to check that out!

It’s a great way to fight. I learned a lot from that because we don’t often see them fighting in Japan!

I use that build on a berserker.

I’m using an elder sword and net gun with bear traps and motion detectors. The combination allows me to get close on the fire team while allowing me to soak a bit of damage if things do not go as smoothly. I usually have enough crowd control on the fire time to take on 2v1 or, in some cases 3v1 situations if the spot is favorable for me. If one target is in my bear trap, I usually just net gun the others while taking down the guy who is in my bear trap with the elder sword. Depending on the situation, I can make a quick claim on him or leave him, so the others stay a while longer in the area while I continue to harass them with the net gun. The most fun way to harass them is when they try to res a downed mate. You just net another dude and finish him quick while two guys are kept busy due to res’ing.

20 seconds into the video… STAMINA BUG!

The elder sword does out damage every other melee weapon, there’s no doubt of that. But my argument against it is that it would only ever be truly effective against weak FTs. A good FT member is going to keep moving around preventing the full combo from hitting while you continue to get shot. You’re more likely to only get the initial 2 hit combo from the first attack in that does 58 damage. The wristblade 1st and 2nd attack are fast enough that you could get both hits in for 60 damage.

My preferred go to close combat(as a hunter) is a combi strick throw for 115 damage followed by two wrist blade hits a second later which totals for 175 damage. The damage is only slightly less than a full eldersword combo but I’m not stuck in an animation, is capable of hitting good FTs, and can maintain mobility if I need to make a quick escape.

The short of it is that if the eldersword actually had good tracking, it would dominate any other melee weapon.

Nice video Shifo.
I was a “bow man” for a while, but I have moved to the Elder Sword for close encounters (in choke points as you point out) and the Plasma Cannon for ranged (with the lens). The sword took a little getting used to, but once I got there I found it a better choice for me than using the Wrist Blades or the Combi-Stick. Gotta try it out with the traps, looks good.

Glad you liked the video mate, best of luck trying it out with the traps :)

it does hit harder technically but its limited in terms of how many ppl it can hit compared to combistick, and combistick has a throw that hits like a truck…Elder sword def hits hard and i wish it had a lunge animation during its combo to feel more useable instead of relying solely on traps to get the most out of it

they in general need to do a melee animation flow overhaul on Pred weapons other than gauntlets and stick

yup, if anything like i mentioned regarding traps + weps i feel like the war club was meant for trap builds…especially the last combination u can do with it…but everything else def feels like it should yea. FT players move so squirrely as it is so trying to land elder sword often times isnt the most optimal strat unless theyre like inside or trapped so it feels off and leaves u vulnerable i feel if u arent landing with it

edit : I might be wrong but I think one of the plus sides of elder sword tho is that it cant be parried? I havent tested it enough tho, can anyone confirm?

once they fix animation flow for the melee weapons it’ll be awesome. I just hope they get to optimization sooner than later, graphic card fans be blowing at 80%+ speed easy. Mine runs at 92% on idle…

It can most definitely be parried. It seems to me that it’s harder to parry than other weapon based on my own experience.

ight thanks yea, wasnt sure…thought I saw someone mention it one time but not officially …seems like the first 2 swings can be which would make sense but I didnt think it was cuz of the last combos

I think if the first hit lands of a melee weapon than the follow up hits of a combo should track the target. It just looks so weird when a predator starts a melee combo and continues to hit the air just because the ft member took one step to the side.

Yea I mean thats why I find myself experimenting with other melee weapons but then I just always come back to Combistick cuz its just too good with its wide arc strikes. It tracks but its not nearly needed to rely on as long as ur aiming ur body towards their direction that theyre moving in, all while hitting multiple targets even…Plus the Spear toss hits like a truck too
