Yep. I just said that. And I stand by that statement. People are tripping way too hard about how the Berserker is so broken and shit. Berserker is pretty strong but all of my experiences with Fireteams losing against Berserkers that are otherwise not playing optimally or maybe even trash while being on the Fireteam is that… they’re kinda trash. Individually they aren’t too bad but they don’t work together as a team for shit.
Knowing the threat a Berserker especially can pose to a single Fireteam member these guys instead of keeping tight and watching over each other are constantly breaking LOS with each other where if they get jumped no one can help them in time even if they are good and just get caught off guard before we can back them up. When a Berserker takes that kind of sustained fire from a full Fireteam or even just one or two guys they can go down pretty quick.
And these are standard problems with lots of Fireteams but it becomes a lot more pronounced against the Berserker and that is what has people’s Jimmies all ruffles about him. But if the Berserker is trash it’s fairly easy to kill if you’re not being stupid about it. Just runs right at ya like a big dumb goof and you light him up.
If he is good then it does take more teamwork to take him down but it is well doable if everyone keeps their eyes on each other’s back and don’t run off alone like so many do. Hell I literally had a Fireteam straight turn their backs to him and ignore him and guess how that played out? Not well. It just kinda amplifies the gravity of these dumb moves people make and then yeah. If you have a good Berserker he could still take you all out even if you are covering each other but that’s the same with any other class.
I think the bulk of what throws people off as well is that Berserkers tend to a lot of ground game, not so much in the trees or high ground so much and it doesn’t seem like Fireteams know how to deal with that. I do a lot of ground game myself with Scout or Hunter so I personally know largely what he is going to do and a number of tricks they like to pull in so doing so that maybe influences my opinion and creates a bias but knowing is half the battle. And given I have single handedly forced a decent chunk of these Berserkers into retreat and pushed them off I think it’s safe to say it’s more meta and skill than anything.
