Beware the yellow Duck!

Howdy Guys, long time no see, hope you all do well?

Some days ago, after playing exclusively FT for some year (and that means: from the start of my PHG career…), I started playing the Pred role - Hooyah

Some things concerning the controlling seem to have improved a little compared to my previous, overly short trial (back then I gave up annoyed early), but controlling the Pred still is more annoying than a FT.

One trick, which did it for me, was to select the long jump perk. With this I do not bump into this and that all the time - so this might be a helpful hint for beginners.

The other trick, which did it for me, was to select the tracker specialization. Before that, I spent most of the time searching for the FT (although this might have automatically improved in the meanwhile - as I got used to the maps/missions playing the FT). But, if you are a beginner, try it out!

After playing the Pred for some 4 days I already win some 1/3 of the games. So, the time yet really is good for beginners, as nearly all randoms seem to be beginners too…

This even mistakenly lead me to the assumption, that the Pred is perfectly safe as long as it stays in the trees or on the roofs (in 9 out of 10 random matches it is) - until I encountered some experienced FTs. Then I was shot out of the trees before I could say “bah”… Cruel m************ ! :)

It is quite interesting, to now see the POV of the other party (the Pred), which I did not do the last year…

Maybe this also will have some effect on my FT play, as some things feels quite easier and other things quite harder than I thought from the POV of the FT.

So, beware the yellow duck…

Cheers, Bonator

Pred specializations do make playing pred more fun. It’s nice experimenting with builds

I played against you yesterday, good game.

Some advice I would give you is to apply more pressure. You should be constantly on top of the fireteam dealing damage.

Also, the handheld plasma caster isn’t really a weapon that is suited for beginner predators in my opinion. Try using a good melee weapon and the bow instead.

Thanks, GG…

I am not good enough with the controller for melee yet…

So, at the moment I concentrate on learning to handle the weapons for ranged attack first and try to learn all that moving and jumping around in safe distance…

Most of my trials with the Combistick ended bad. Some people are quite good in blocking it - never got that as FT…

The problem with other melee weapons is, that I normally have a huge ping / lag beyond 80ms. If I would use the sickle, half of the hits from my POV likely would not make any damage. Same might be true for the hand held plasma.

I already tried the bow, but it is even harder to hit people with it than with the handheld plasma, right?

But, allow me one question: can I somehow speed up the movement of my aim in Pred-ADS without speeding up my aim in FT-ADS??

Cheers

It takes practice, after you play some more matches as the predator you’ll definitely start killing all these fireteams.

I would say using melee is a bit easier to master compared to ranged weapons. I would recommend the elder sword for you as that’s a weapon that isn’t very easy to parry. That’s the melee weapon I used when I was a beginner.

The bow definitely takes a lot of practice. You can try using the bow at close range first and then work your way up to using it from farther distances. Also, I forgot to mention the plasma caster. Try using dithered lens with the plasma caster.

Sorry, I don’t know the answer to the question at the end of your comment. Maybe someone else on the Forum can answer that for you.

Ah, the sword, yes maybe I should try that… Could be of sufficient range to overcome the problems with the ping/lag too.

Was it a veeeery short match…? I had two or three of them yesterday :) If you expect just another noob-random team and suddenly you get aware, that this is a FT team, which is shooting back seriously…

That right there is the fun part of playing pred

Lots of the jungle has been ‘domestocated’ to grow potatoes, but there are still areas of wilderness where FT roam

But there are also steamed potatoes on the jungle now. Those a pretty decent

Howdy Folks!

This night was the first time, I played a match in the predator role, after which I was happy with ALL decisions I made in said match.

OK, I also played one match, after which I was unhappy with ALL decisions in said match, but do not let us talk about that one…

By the way, this night also was the first night, that I terminated more teams than the other way round.

Summary: seems, I am slowly getting used / comfortable playing the predator role - hooyah :)

After experimenting with some melee weapons, I am now using handheld plasma and sickle - but melee still is my weak point :(

I am back at using the Combi Stick.

If you get behind a soldier, it is more easy to hit him - due to its “surround” range.

If you encounter a knife fighter already waiting for you - you can just throw it into his face instead…

Throwing the Combi is fun. This night I tried to eliminate a team by just throwing the Combi Stick (supported by some claw slashes…) and it worked with the first trial.

The Combi Stick might not be the most effective melee weapon, but for me, at the moment, it is the most fun one :)

Does throwing the stick also work against good players?
