Can't login into game from Steam or Epic

What doesn’t make sense to me is why my instance never calls for 1.3 at all, however my brothers does.
My wireshark logs only show TSL 1.2 the entire time, and his does mostly aswell except for the one call that is receiving the fatal error.
Both our pc’s have TSL 1.3 disabled
I’m able to connect fine and he isn’t
Identical network setup

this error is definitely the issue because every time i click “play online” it pops up with a new log for the 1.3 fatal error as the login fails, consistently.

Is there any workaround to fix this problem?

26.10. First time the problem was shown.
31.10. Game still broken.

OS: Windows 10 Pro, 22H2, Build 19045.5011
Region: Poland
Antivirus: Windows
VPN: Nope

Some of my friends also had problems with connection “region error” although they are from different countries EGS, STEAM but after a day or 2 days the problem itself was solved, and now they can play. I have no problems, the game starts and I can play.

prove to me what you just said ( and why the need to troll and get toxic in a serious thread)

This looks promising…

If you saved your capture into file open it. If not, run the Wireshark capture again as I described before.

Then look for the alert Unknown CA line. When you find it, change display filter line to tls (1) so more packets (lines) appear.

We need to know who is the source of Alert message (2). If the source starts with:

  • 172.16. to 172.31.
  • 192.168.

Then it is your computer (private IP). If the address starts with anything else, it is the server. I don’t need to know your IP, I just need to know if address in Source column is your computer IP or server IP and I need to know server IP. Finally I need to know name of the server. It will be few lines above, Info column contains Client Hello (SNI=name.of.some.game.related.server.com) (3)

Hopefully source IP is your computer address so we can find which root certificate you don’t have in your Windows installed. Then we can look it up and you can import it manually.

TLS 1.2 and 1.3 are fine and you should have both enabled.
TLS 1.0 and 1.1 are deprecated and should not be used.

The problem seems to be with the certificate chain on some of the servers the game connects to.

Imagine you have close friends you trust (in computer terminology Root CA), they have friends they trust (Intermediate CA) and again they have friends they trust (Certificates at endpoint servers). You met Charlie but you don’t know him, luckily he has signature from Bob validating it is really him. You don’t know Bob, but he has signature from Alice it is really him. Alice is your close friend, you trust her, so via this friend chain you can validate and trust it is really Charlie.

Illfonic server says “I am Zoey and I have signature from Yordan”, then Yordan tells you “I am Yoardan and I have signature from Xander”. But for some reason you forget that you know Xander and you refuse talk to Zoey.

For some reason your computer doesn’t have Root CA of chain the Illfonic server certificate. As I replied to ColonelJack, we need to figure out which server it is.

Here is example of my flow. TLS 1.3 works fine, I can login without problems.

I do not want to jinx anything, but it works now for me…

Source is my IP,

Server : spacefish.illfonic.com

What is server’s IP address displayed in the dump?

Game is working for me now :-)

3.165.148.91

(Game is working now)

Seems they had invalid certificate on CDN (cloudfront.net) they use to shield their servers. Happy it is fixed now.

working

Woke up this morning and my brother is able to login again
Ran wireshark again on his system and they’ve removed the TSL 1.3 call and it only calls for 1.2 again.
We got to the bottom of it fairyautja, must’ve been a dodgy self authorization certificate on their end
1.3 is buggy with alot of things on windows 10 btw fairyautja, its more for windows 11 and we both run 10

Thanks for getting onto it so quickly ilffonic!

не всем так повезло !

Пишут, что уже заработало. Проверял у себя?

Everyone should be able to get back in past the ‘Region Lookup’ error now. Please let me know and tag me in this thread if you are still encountering the error.
