I recently ran into a PC fire team player who could break out of net gun nets near instantly. I suspect he did this through a macro, and if so, that means the net gun can be rendered practically useless through unfair means. The easiest way to combat this would be to change how breaking out of the nets works, and the solution is simple: make it so you have to hold the button instead of mashing it, like with the bear trap. This would not only counter macros, but also establish a sense of consistency between the “trapping” items of the predator.
Since it’s easier to trap people with the net gun than it is with the bear traps, and since it has so many more uses, I think it should take 3 seconds to escape while moving, and 2 seconds to escape while holding still, compared to the bear trap’s non-variable 3 seconds. (For those who don’t know, you can escape the net faster by not moving. This is why it’s easier to escape when you’re pinned.)
And since they would operate similarly to a bear trap now, I think having the “trapper” perk affect the nets wouldn’t be unreasonable, adding one more second to the escape time just like with bear trap. To counter this, the “dexterous” perk should allow you to escape nets faster, (if they don’t already) again, just like with bear traps.
What do you guys think? Would this be a good change, or a bad one? Did I miss something? I think that it would help make escaping nets feel more consistent and fair while also giving some extra purpose to some lesser-used perks. And also, like I said, counter macros.
