Could the Game be bought by another company?

Okay this is a serious question, I don’t know much about the business world but I’m curious. Could another company buy the rights of Hunting Grounds off Illfonic or if the lawsuit between the OG writers vs. Disney forces Illfonic to release their rights to the Predator name, could this be free game for any company to sign a new contract and remake or keep the style of Hunting Grounds.

I’m just curious, not saying it will happen. It’s just a simple what if? Most likely if the law suit goes back to the OG Writers then Illfonic will have to sign a new contract possibly.

If I was going to buy a game from a set of devs, I think it would be The Blackout Club. It’s a fun environment and systems, the devs just focused down on the part that was impractical, trying to give spontaneous interactions to the players and build out a story without it changing said environment or missions.

With what they have, you could tell some pretty spectacular stories though. Even has decent AI

Thats actually a good question. F13 was taken over by a diffrent dev (and died) so technically its possible, providing the new dev will have IP rights

I highly doubt illfonic owns the rights to the game. Every major game out there is owned by the publisher, and the developers are just hired guns.

Technically the publisher could sell the rights to the game or assign another developer team. Though more often than not, when a game changes development teams is because the previous dev company was bought by a bigger company.

Think like, imagine bethesda buys illfonic… Game now is under bethesda’s umbrella, even though it will probably be the same dev team/studio

Sony could easily outsource it to another dev team and illfonic couldn’t do shit.

F13 is still with Gun Media the publisher, illfonic was hired by them to do the dev work. A company called Black Tower was hired to take over when illfonic moved on after the lawsuit. Black tower had already done some work on maps and bug fixes, so they just took over other duties as well.

It’s still alive on PS4 and Switch but PC has had it rough with hacks and downed servers. It’s all p2p now though. So really you only have to find a lobby with a host that doesn’t quit to get some matches in… wait times lower than for Pred, 😅.
