Because straight up people do not like change no matter how much they say so, also being wrong for most people is not a subject of fact or fiction but an attack on their character for if their opinion is wrong or the understanding of a subject is wrong then they must be dumb which is seen by society as bad so they cannot be that the other person MUST be wrong so people instead of looking for people who challenge them or their ideas they look for others that relate or are simaler to them which go s back to the idea of humans used to be in tribes and that part of our monkey brain is still with us

Because people don’t want conflicting ideas they want an echo chamber OP. Its not about discussion its just about being praised for something.
Kind of like people that try to use reddit as a platform for discussion when you can downvote people into oblivion and hide their posts.
