No. The shit they altered for “better gameplay” fucked up how Pred is played. For starters, whatever bug there is for sprint makes movement, at least for console, difficult in high profile engagements. It used to be one stick click and you would sprint, no issues, now for some reason you have to click twice, sometimes three times to go into sprint. For classes like Wolf with high movement speed, the ability to move on command is a must, and they fucked this up. FT has the same issue, but its less impactful to gameplay.
Another big change is the leap; no longer are leaps as floaty as they used to be, you can no longer go as far or as high. Apparently this was to add “weight”. I can’t tell you how aggravating it is to spend four years closing distance and making certain jumps consistently, to all of a sudden being unable to clear the map as fast or get onto a hill or building that was easy for you before. The red jump marker even fucks you over, its unchanged from 2.49, it shows you where you USED to be able to leap to, and when you try you miss the mark by a large margin.
All in all, Pred was never easy or fun unless you were going against low to mid tier players. Anything higher and you’re going to have a bad day. And these 2.50 changes made it even harder to compete.

Look when Illfonic promises PS5 support when therre is clearly already a playable PS5 version of the game already existing, you’re getting pissed on by a company that not only doesn’t know that their game is out on the platform, but now they are expecting to make updates on a game 5 years after it was released and yet people who had PS5 already knew it was playable and worrking on it!
So now they declare themselves bonofide PS5 ready, they also didn’t plan to post sticky notes about it on their twitter until FALL OF 2024 which mind you is not here yet!
Can we cut to the chase and say the fanbase and IGN and whatever are chasing vaporware by the time FALL 2024 comes??

They completely destroyed the sprint system on console so now you have to tap the left stick down to sprint or stop sprinting every single time, basically working the same way as Jason’s walk/fast-walk toggle in F13th The Game, which is extremely hard to get used to when you’ve developed muscle memory for something different for the past 4ish years, whereas before you just held it down when you wanted to sprint and it worked 100% better. It also screws over your stamina when you’re trying to leap away because you’ll be used to jogging to regen stamina, and suddenly your Predator begins to sheepishly sprint, your stamina goes low again, you can’t leap, and then you get melted by SAWZ-50s & 1011-12’s. You also end up accidentally spamming the button because the Predator will take an eternity to actually start sprinting sometimes & so you can’t even tell if you’re in sprint mode or jog mode. This completely neutered the slower Predators like Mr Black too because he sprints so slowly you can’t even tell if he’s sprinting half the time & it ends up using your stamina when you don’t want it to, and you can’t avoid bullets as fluidly as before the update. The sprint toggle is a terrible change, arguably the worst.
They screwed up the new Leaping system too, because yes you’re less likely to get shot mid-air, but you can’t leap as far, you can’t reach higher areas that you used to be able to reach, and because you land on the ground faster, your stamina has had less time to regenerate in-between leaps, so you can’t make as much distance as fast as before, and it’s also much harder to get in & out of engagements with the Fireteam. They effectively neutered your Travel Speed potential, and might aswell have chained you to the floor for the Fireteam to finish you off, because sometimes it is borderline impossible to avoid damage if the Fireteam can actually aim. You effectively need to use Adrenal Boost & Long Jump if you want to feel anything like what it was before Patch 2.50.
They also decided to nerf the Plasma Pistol for some stupid reason, giving it a higher fire rate, but less ammo & less damage per shot, plus less damage from splash damage. So, pretty much every time you down someone now, you’ll end up getting them to within a millisecond of death with the Plasma Pistol, and then you’ll suddenly have to reload, which completely fucks you over, and the Fireteam can just come & melt that last part of your health & put you in Second Wind before you can finish off the downed player. You can still make the Plasma Pistol work obviously, but it was a pointless change for the worse. They should be nerfing the SAWZ-50 & 1011-12, not one of the only 4 selectable Predator weapons that are actually viable against good teams.
Splash damage is also now practically non-existent. Yeah sure, you deal more damage with direct fully charged Plasma Caster shots, but they nerfed both the radius & damage output from splash damage into the floor. Sometimes, you’ll shoot right next to a Fireteam member’s foot, and you won’t deal any damage because the splash damage radius is so small it just doesn’t register, and even if it does, the damage will be so insignificant that you might aswell have missed the shot entirely. A Scout Fireteam member can literally tank 3 fully charged Plasma Shots from a Predator with Down Range & either Analytic or Stalker if the shot doesn’t hit them literally dead-on. The reduced splash damage also makes it more difficult to play against campers, so the Fireteam can also now just get away with using these cheap tactics even easier than they could before.
The only somewhat worthwhile change they made to the Predator in the last patch, was the ridiculous speed increase they have in the Trees/Predkour, purely because it makes the Predator harder to hit. But even so, it’s not a useful enough change. Plus, if you’re gonna make the Predator move that fast along the branch, why not also add the extra speed to when they move from one branch/part of the tree to the next? One second you’re moving like a roided out Cheetah, and the next you’re hauling your ass across a branch like a sloth. It makes no sense. It’s also not that useful if the Predator also still decides to move across parts of the branch by himself when you never moved him in that direction, and you either give away your position, get melted by the Fireteam, or you’re stuck in a slow animation while the Fireteam member you just caught in a Bear Trap is escaping.
The changes they made have done nothing but fuck over the Predator in 90% of notable cases.

I was planning on playing again sometimes after the next patch maybe, but now it’s more necessary than before.
Considering what everyone has pointed out and the fact that the Reckless Bug (exactly like Fanatic Bug) is still not fixed, I think the Predator gaming experience is actually getting worse.
I remember that the Fanatic Bug started spreading around September last year and was fixed in April of this year, but the Reckless Bug remained unfixed for four months. Additionally, there are some players who abuse this every time. Fanatic Bug has essentially been going on for about a year.
I would like illfonic to at least fix the Reckless Bug, but I don’t know if they will make the next update. (Maybe around fall of this year?)
I’ve had to quit out of matches recently because of campers hiding under the huts in Backwater, and that little back room with the elevator in Headquarters, simply because of the non-existent splash damage. Like there is literally no offensive counter to that, especially in Backwater. I’ve dealt with both scenarios before 2.50 and it was much easier to deal with them because of that splash damage, now its nearly impossible, I take far more damage from them trying than I can dish out in return.

TECKNIKALLY…what we have is not a PS5 version. What we’re currently playing on console is the PS4 version running on the accelerated PS5 hardware. That’s why there’s no frame rate cap, graphics are crisper and smoother, and there’s a lot less lag compared to running it on the native PS4. Like I played it on PS4 for about two years before getting a PS5, and fuck did the upgrade make a huge difference. So what Illfonic is doing with their upcoming “PS5/XBOX Series” release is, I assume, a version of the game that has been tweaked in-house to be more of a current gen upgrade (think barebones “remaster”), pretty much all of the above but more polished and meant to run on the current hardware. I don’t expect very many QOL improvements, if any at all. It’ll just be prettier and probably run smoother.
there isn’t much more it can do. judging by the footage its more or less PC at max settings 2048p with lots of antialiasing added. by what others have said, hopefully you get better controller support.
it is likely just going to be a re-release in the digital store, rather than a port or re-master.
They stated something about re-developing the game in a newer version of Unreal engine… I highly doubt that. And if they are actually doing that, it will unlikely be a smooth process with all the janky shit they have on their code.

Yeah, Unreal 4.27, Vivox and Wwise, according to the press release from March. Unless they’ve had a dedicated team this whole time working on restructuring the code to run properly on these, I also doubt it will run smoothly. Not gonna lie, I am excited to see how it will look and run, and to see the potential trainwreck I know it will be, especially on Xbox.
