His passing shows how much the community cared.
I heard that when he passed some servers had spontaneous cease fires because people were so shocked/sad.

Valve even added the statues to tribute him that reappear every April 8th.

Took cancer, heart attack, and a respiratory infection to bring him down. A true soldier to the end, and one that we’ll all miss dearly.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that was true

Ever since that day on April 8th, me and pretty much everybody else on the server runs soldier and just sits there and stares at the statue while the one f2p spy starts backstabbing everyone
