Explaining what "Winning" means in this game for everyone

I see a lot of people that I don’t think they understand how “winning” works in this game.

It is actually quite difficult to “Lose” a match in this game (at least as the predator)

Predator - Every single ending situation in the game is basically considered a “win” for predator unless you both die AND have your body claimed by the FT. that is the only way to legitimately lose a match in this game as predator. Even dying and setting off your nuke without killing a single FT member is considered a “win”. This means you shouldn’t feel like you lost the game under any circumstances except that one I just described. This isn’t a typical Asym game with traditional win conditions. survival or not being captured is prioritized above all else, while gaining as much exp from the hunt as possible is a secondary “main” objective.

Fire team - is a bit easier to lose, if everyone dies, you lose. if you do not capture the predator body, or escape on the helicopter after finishing the mission you technically lose. Waiting out the time limit and simply surviving as the fire team is a more neutral ending since it does say you are alive at the end of the game. technically a “win” i suppose in that sense. so as fireteam you basically win as long as you dont die (or in a team sense as long as one teammate survives somehow).

this does mean that many games can in fact end with both teams “winning” the match.

basically the point of this post is just to address the fact that winning and losing in this game is not as cut and dry as we are used to from many other games. Hope this helped some.

I agree with everything here ✔️ - except perhaps for one thing:

Bit confused by escaping on the chopper being a technical loss

you read the sentence wrong

“if you don’t capture the predator body, or escape on the helicopter after finishing the mission you technically lose”

if you dont escape you lose. not if you do, lol. hope that clears it up!

But it’s not fun to “win” if you didn’t hunt satisfactorily.
Self detonate area should cover the whole map. Or at least be bigger. And there should be more time to set the timer. What’s the point in even having this when the FT can kill you before your can get it activated?
The controls are janky. I had E bound to it. It doesn’t work with that key for some reason. So I changed it to F2. That works but there’s a delay.

oh! 😂
Yup ez agree then

wow my brain is actual putty after being up all night

I agree the bomb needs a bigger radius or slightly shorter time limit. I have killed people with it before many times, but its ALWAYS when they get greedy and try to kill me to disarm but take too long.

with that said you can still win but the match not go very well lol. i think that best describes this situation you presented here.

While I disagreed with increasing the radius. I can agreed with letting Predators earn kill if someone or whole FT stick around the radius. One time my teammate down and I have to rescue em and there isn’t enough time for both of us to get out of the blast radius.

This is wrong. It says in the game, if anyone escapes it’s a loss for the predator. The game views a win for the predator as everyone dead.

Yo man, every time I fucking Nuke myself feels like a goddamn success. (The code baby)
Though I believe you fail if you survive and you don’t at least kill one player. If you don’t bring back at least one skull in your belt you are a total failure.

(Though by Actual Yautja lore, if you don’t kill yourself at the failing of a hunt you are outcasted and hunted by other Yautja)

I mean it’s all up to the individual’s mindset.

Yeah, having all FT members escape means a “dishonour to your clan”, but I mean, Predz can prove thyself the next match and earn their “honour” back.
I’d consider having Predator’s body taken in for research by the OWLF to be an ultimate loss.
A successful detonation is a win in my books even if all FT members are out of the blast radius – I mean damn, just listen to that laugh:

If you seriously can’t see any other ending as a technical “win” other than what’s stated in the ‘How To Play’ menu, that’s fine, but it’s on you.

I mean don’t get me wrong I’m personally happy with any kills. I’m just saying the game literally tells you it’s a loss if you don’t kill everyone. That’s like losing in Halo but saying, well I got a lot of kills so I’ll take it as a personal W. That’s all fine but the game is just telling you no

Yup! Perfect way of putting it
I guess that’s the beauty in it - yes by the game’s standards Predator not killing all 4 FT members is “Losing”
but it sure as hell doesn’t feel that way to the player.
meaning less salt.
Like unless the FT member capture Predz’ corpse in pristine condition, everything else isn’t that bad. Hell, a captured body that’s anything below “pristine” is a win in my books.

But yes all personal wins.

I consider how I played in the match - did I come across as an intimidating Predator? Did I keep them on their toes?
Even if all of 'em get away or a couple get away, I enjoy the hunt if it feels like I played a legit Predator. That’s what I aim for.
Hearing the FT post-game be like “gg, that was a fun game” is really enough for me.

I dont really have a dire need for that WIN feeling. Thogh, the only thing I consider a WIN when playing Pred is when I go home with 4 trophies
As for FT, when I leave in the chopper all assignments completed = win.

But since I have a blast every single round, it doesnt matter.

For me I take half the team as a draw. Like ok fair game gg. If I get more than that, like I have games where I get 5 kills but 2 people get away, I still take that as a W

You’re actually quite wrong, read up on the “Predator” Section in the Extra menu of the game.

Illfonic flat out tell you Preds only win if they kill ALL the fireteam, to a Pred, everything beyond that is a loss. The Bomb is there if you screw up badly and dishonorably enough to be downed, it’s essentially a way to pull a black knight “We’ll call it a draw.” though in the pred’s hands it’s more “Screw you, you didn’t win, I killed myself!”

Fireteam’s only loss condition is if everyone dies. What matters most to fireteam is completing the mission. if even one person survives and complete’s the mission that’s more points for the whole team for doing their job.

I count at Least 2 kills as a win so.

That’s what I love about it. The winning is more nuanced and it helps take pressure off and focuses you to just have fun. But sadly with how the balancing is and what not, the fun to be found is kind of difficult on both sides. I mean it’s not really fun hunting the predator and not being afraid and killing it I’m the first 3 minutes by spamming knife hits and parry. And it’s not fun being predator when that happens to you or the game goes against you when you try to stalk and hunt them, kill a few and 15 seconds later they’re all back.
