Fire team and predator fair adjustments (mud problem)

I’m a huge fan of the Predator series and I’m a fan of this game, however after playing a good amount of time of the full product I think it’s fair to say some changes need to be implemented to make this game huge and not have little qualities ruin what can be a great game.

I’ve played a lot of both the Predator and Fireteam, more so the Fireteam because there seems to be more availability, but also because of a mud problem.

(Changes)

Too much “mudding up”

I started playing as soon as it hit midnight upon release of the game and each game felt well paced and fair, it’s now the 25th, and as the predator you can’t find a single Fireteam member because they all “mud up” everyone chance they get. From the beginning of the game (literally) to as soon as it runs out. I get it it hides heat signature it’s in the movies, what’s also in the movies is the difference that it was only one person at any one point doing it.

I have thought of a few solutions for this problem, to balance this overpowered game mechanic.

For the predator

  • new vision mode for the predator, this mood can spot a target who is “mud up” maybe by tracking heartbeats, this way the predator picks up AI soldiers and also boars. This vision mode could also be balanced by using up more energy.

Or

for the Fireteam

  • Have it so that “mudding up” feature is a perk for the Fireteam where it costs points. This will allow for more versatility, offering more custom loadouts so In theory you won’t always be paired up with other Fireteam members who are always rocking the same perks. This “mudding up” perk could cost less perk points for the recon class, adding to the idea of a stealthier/sniper esk character.

I think adopting either or both of the game changers will increase the games overall fun factor. If anyone has played Star Wars Battlefront 2 they know of the infamous Officer class problem where it was the only class used in that game for the longest time because it gave you more battlepoints to get a hero faster. This is similar in the sense that we shouldn’t be playing as a Fireteam member and all having the same ability’s, it gets old fast and it takes you out of the game.

Yea I like the idea of limiting the mud up option.

Yep. Why would the fire team mud up before knowing the Predator was lurking? All they know is that they have objectives within the camps. Mudding up should only be available after the Predator is spotted by the team.

Isn’t there a perk for predator that allows them to see muddy footprints? They also have that perk where they can see sound signatures from further out. Once you play more and learn the maps more it’s not that hard to find them imo since the maps are pretty small

This is all true. It does take a skilled, more experience player as the Predator to know when you have covered enough ground on the map with the vision to know that the fire team is mud upped. I think it’s the amount of time it takes to get to that point of realization is where I have an issue. This is a game that is all about timing. Given the map is very small, a fire team that is hyper focused on objectives and never stop moving can get to calling the chopper <6 minutes from the start of a match. A mid-level or beginner player doesn’t have enough time to run/jump across the map or “hunt” the team in this time crunch w/ the fire team all mud upped.

I think the OP has good ideas on how to balance this – but I still believe the fire team needs to identify/spot the Predator before mud can be used. This might give the fire team motivation to find the Predator amongst speed running the objectives.

Personally, I think the Predator should know the landing zone at the start of the match. After all, the Predator saw them fly in!

I’m liking hearing the idea of waiting to see the predator before being able to mud up, but I also think the ability should have its limits, like only being able to mud up near a body of water so it’s wet mud. I hear the argument that the predator has the ability to see the footprints of those mudded up but it’s quite far in the skill tree, making it hard for new players.

I think it just needs its limits and there should be changes made to both teams to which will allow more creativity among the player base so the predator and the Fireteam aren’t always using the same perks.

Liking everyone’s feedback, good to talk about these “issues” because it gets the wheel turning for change to happen.
