The reason they used a similar mask, was in a comic book about the elder detailing how he got the flintlock pistol he wears a biomask that is almost identical to the Jungle Hunter’s mask

The 87 mask was the norm as mask in the comics for a long period of time. I dont think the mask got changed untill pred 2 cam out if im not mistaken

Exactly, they didn’t have anything to go off of so they used the comic mask which is a classic mask

Also lets be honest. It was the early fans that cosplay the Predator that really pushed the different personalities of the Preds. They are the true mask creators

Lol. People were literally complaining about the 87 mask/skin in almost every thread and they give a damn close to that Mask/Skin for FREE and people still complain, lol. The 87 skin isn’t really THAT different from some of the default/classic shaded skins tbh. Throw the mask on and boom boring vanilla predator, lol. I preordered deluxe to have it but I’d rather play my own customized creative looking preds aside from the Elder since there is so little to customize. Though I will likely make a Samurai Pred because it’s at least more creative looking from what I’ve seen and I like Samurai/Ninja and prettty much any other ancient warrior/assassin cultures. Hence my love for extended universe takes on the Yautja.
Nothing boring or vanilla about the 87 mask. Its CLASSIC no matter what predator you put it on. 😇

Yeah my loadout for it (which we really need more of btw with all these different classes/characters being released!) is called Classic, lol. I was mostly commenting on people wanting ONLY the Classics and have actually said they dislike the more colorful or interesting skins we’ve gotten so far. '87 is obviously a Classic and so would the City Hunter and Lt. Harrigan but as much as I want them I also want more original, customizable design options. I’m one of those that consider Create-a-Character a decent selling point, sorry.

Its not the same 3d model. Apart from textures and materials being diffrent - its also a slightly diffrent model.

They did it because elder predator mask in predator 2 was the same exact mask used in the original movie so to save money they had to reuse props and elders mask was just repainted with a “worn” look. If you look closely you can spot it at the end of predator 2 in the predator ship. Elder is not wearing it but you can still find it and it looks exactly the same as the one in the game.
