At this point. They should try to rebalance/rework the game, then go free to play.
If they go free to play now, nobody will stick around or return if the fixes ever come.

I’m finding this to be a very last priority with them having 2 games coming out this year.
Can easily see them going “our hands are tied” leaving the game in the exact current state it is in.
Do we honestly think with the folks who currently play and the “new players that continue to come in” that they will even balance anything at all?
I’d love to eat my words, but fairly certain the game isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
