Gaming sucks

I question whether others share my sentiment, but gaming seems to have lost its appeal. Previously, I was enthusiastic about the future of gaming; however, the current state is underwhelming. Perhaps it’s a result of maturing, but the constant cycle of investing time and money without a satisfying experience is disappointing. I’m considering a temporary hiatus to explore more fulfilling pursuits.

I don’t think it has lost its appeal, but rather what it offers no longer appeals to you.

Is completely normal. Humans go through many stages in their lives. I wasn’t into gaming through most of my 20’s and 30’s.

I disagree.

There are many foul apples in the basket, but still games that I enjoy. PHG is - which might surprise you - one of them. I like the franchise and this game depicts it quite nicely - but also with certain flaws.

I’m only playing this game for I think 2 weeks now so the frustration is not too big. If more people leave the game and I’m left with only the HC players who will have me for breakfast I will probably also leave but for now I get enough of a good mix of opponents that I’m motivated to learn and improve.

But PHG is not the main reason why I did not lose my passion for video games. That reward goes.to Helldivers 2 this year even though I myself gave that game a break when the big nerfs came in. But these developers at Arrowhead are really great when it comes to communication with the community. They are indeed listening to what their players want. The last two patches were really saving that gaming experience for me and many others. Not to mention that at HD2 there is no FOMO because all battlepasses are available all of the time without expiration date - yes I’m looking at you I’ll Illphonic

I do hope that other studios will see how successful this approach is and learn their lesson. I’m not buying many games, but the ones that I do buy, I get out my money’s worth most of the time. In HD2 I got 500 hours+ now and in BF2042 more than 1000 hours.

Games that have me compete with others online are usually the ones that I get the most playtime out of.

Maybe I’m a bit weird still playing video games at the age of 50, but I got online buddies who are even older than me. Gaming was something for kids when it surfaced, now the kids have become old, but why stop?

If you got a shift of priorities that is normal and happened to me as well. There are spells of time when I game less and focus on other things. But I will probably always come back for more later.

Well, they surely don’t make games like they used to. 2012 had so many better games than 2024 does.

You’re playing the wrong games. Stop just chasing the latest releases or whatever is the big live service thing & you’ll find there’s hundreds of good games out there better worth your time.

stop only buying illfonic games 😂

Yeah but I need better equipment & tbh my drives just not there tbh I’d rather go do something else less complicated & competitive something that’s worth my time investment

That’s your issue. I just told you, stop looking for big releases & live service. Go play a single player game. Go play an indie. You don’t need latest technology, you don’t need to engage with others.

I bought COD Cold War first month it came out you couldn’t even play it TCM is made by Gun media & has a ton of issues mainly because they’re not a AAA gaming studio, but even the AAA gaming studios have issues to be honest the ones that seemingly don’t have issues with gaming are people with PC set ups and satellite Internet not to mention the micro transactions in my opinion, that’s completely ruined gaming Instead of making you level up and get good, they’re now making you pay for everything and over a period of time. It’s only gotten worse. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just over. Wanna go onto something else?

So what’s your point then dude?

My point is you’re playing the wrong games I just told you. You’re sat here like “Damn I got no drive” yeah cause you fucking play COD & PHG and shit like that.

This year has been great for me. Dragon’s Dogma 2, Gundam Breaker 4, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, Shadow Generations. Hell I even grabbed V Rising and that’s a good time too. Fucking Baldur’s Gate 3 is still getting support, they added full mod support & even new routes & options for an Evil Campaign so guess that’s another 200+ hours I’ll be sinking in to it. Elden Ring got a good-ass expansion too.

I even went through backlog & picked up some older titles that caught my eye. Severance: Blade of Darkness, Enclave HD, did another run of Dragon’s Crown too. Finally got round to buying Gloomwood on Steam too and that’s an excellent Stealth-Horror game.

Look man you can feel and think that’s great. You know whatever you want but for me I’m just done. I’m over it man like I’m on the spectrum and whenever people on the spectrum really get into something after a while we lose interest because we got super into it and dissected everything about it now it’s time to move onto something else and I don’t have to like all of those games just to be able to enjoy gaming And I’ve played multiple single player roles. You know I’ve had a blast. I think I’m just ready to do something else I want to get into creating things with my hands you know, possibly learning how to run a business one day or even learn more about the autism spectrum to proceed forward , all I know at this point what I’m doing now and I’m just kind of over it and I’m just wondering if anyone else has felt the same way that’s what all this is about

You’re not special 'cause you on the spectrum dude, I am too. I got into gaming on my 3rd Birthday when I received a Dreamcast with Tomb Raider 4 & Sonic Adventure 2: I was doomed from that day onwards my guy. I’ve been gaming for 22 years now, not gonna stop any time soon. Whenever somebody makes one of these “Gaming sucks now” posts, what they actually mean is they’re only playing big Triple A releases, buying COD & Fifa & trying to get into the next live service thing. They’re not actually broadening their horizons, or looking out of whatever is the current mainstream.

Yeah, to be honest, my favorite game of all time is sonic Adventure two and yeah, my first game console was a sega Dreamcast I had soul caliber crazy taxi, House of the dead, to be honest, there wasn’t a single game that I played on the Sega Dreamcast that was bad, even if it was something like centipede and that’s kind of my point is that I have not really enjoyed gaming to the fullest since these periods of time therefore, why would I keep investing my time into things that aren’t giving me fulfillment anymore due to how things have changed because yes, it has been 20 years

P.S HYDRO THUNDER!!!

It’s a lot of the bugs and glitches, is why I don’t pre order anything and look into what I’m buying first before getting it.

I had the same issues with predator hunting grounds with all it’s bugs and broken promises and flat out Lies. It’s why I’m very very wary of getting another one of their games again

Look man I get that sometimes gaming ain’t the same as it was when we were kids, but that’s just the reality of things. Sometimes I just wanna go back in time to when I was like 8-10. Spend hours every day playing SA2, or Concrete Jungle & Shadow the Hedgehog on PS2. But those games haven’t gone anywhere, I can still boot them up whenever I want via either the consoles in my house in storage or even emulation. Sometimes ya just need to go back and play older games or discover something new. I didn’t expect to like Baldur’s Gate 3 as much as I did going in, it became one of my Top 5 RPGs of all time after. Just go out & browze a Steam Sale or something, maybe something will catch your eye.

Maybe because most games are cash grabs or pay2win.
The concept of entertainment and haymaking games is no longer among gaming development companies.
Also let’s not forget ther’s an ongoing interactive media strike. That may push developers back about even thinking on investing in game producing.

Yeah, I can say that man I’ll totally agree with you you know maybe getting back into retro gaming or classic gaming isn’t such a bad idea, especially since the one movie I’m really excited for this year is sonic three because it should be taking place at the times of sonic adventure two and when I was a kid, I had a dream about seeing that and a live action movie now about 20 years later we are getting that so I’m super hyped and excited for that. I don’t know. I’ve just found myself in a position an honest position something that’s not easy to be honest with yourself about but yeah man, I’m burnt out lol 😂
