Space monsters invading reduces Godzilla to 1950s camp fodder. That’s not what he is. That’s not what he’s about. The terror of Godzilla was very, very real to an entire nation, less than ten years after the bombs were dropped. Yes, he is a fictional giant monster, but what created him, what he is an allegory for and why he still exists today is still very prevalent in our world, that being nuclear destruction. I get it, you want new forms of energy. But I feel like you’re skimping past the point here. Godzilla isn’t a hero. He isn’t out looking to “get pissed” at the next natural disaster; WE are the natural disaster. WE made him. His anger and fury is a direct result of what we did. Yes, he turned face in the mid 60s, because that’s what was good for business. But take him back to his genesis, and you will find a killing machine, a living embodiment of the atomic bomb itself. That, that is my Godzilla.

Ok.

I still have my copy. Need to get a new case since it has the gamestop sticker on it. And it’s the best Godzilla simulator out there, for sure. But it’s appeal drains quickly I’m afraid, which is unfortunate.

Well considering Japan uses nuclear power as their main source of electricity etc, I’d say they were ok with it now. Literally their entire society depends upon it. Without it, their way of life would come to a screeching halt. Now, the Fukushima reactor disaster is a very poignant example of the dangers of it in the case of an emergency, and the Govts slow reaction to it another big issue with way too much beaurocracy (hence Shin Goji), but there’s no reason the character CAN’T take on another allegorical form. Stuff can do multiple things.

Prefer him more as a force of nature. Whether or not he’s seen as a hero is subjective based on whether or not you get out of the way in time, but he gets the job done.

Legendary G is best G.

I like force of nature Godzilla, a lot actually. That persona carried well from 55-65, all through Heisei and through most the Millennium series, all of Reiwa so far, and of course the Monsterverse. I dunno, I prefer my Godzilla to be borderline malevolent. His roots were grown in being a vessel of vengeance against mankind, so as close as we can get to that kind of behavior, the better. Even as a force of nature that mostly works, because he’s more or less indifferent. His goal is to protect nature, the planet, the order of balance. Mankind likes to fuck that up. So I’d love to see Legendary Godzilla turn heel and fuck us up, like they’ve been alluding to.

Godzilla is considered "the original radioactive superhero " due to his accidental radioactive origin story predating Spider-Man (1962 debut), though Godzilla did not become a hero until Ghidorah in 1964.

Sorry y’all wrong 😐
