Hardcore Mode...an alternative treatment to the spotting issue

Although I think there’s a good chance that spotting will be addressed in the next patch, I don’t think it will ever get to the point it will satisfy us.

Spotting is kind of needed for new players dealing with the Predator and, after all, new players become experienced players that stick around and we all get to play with.

But yes, spotting in its current state is being abused. You are not skilled by running after a highlighted enemy that relies on it cloak to fight 4 of you, especially glass Scouts like me.

So what about a ‘Hardcore Mode’ which opens up as an option to choose for lvl 100 players. Could look something like this:

===========

Predator

  • 100% invisibility cannot be spotted
  • No clicks or purring when cloaked

Clearly this will be a much harder Predator to deal with from FT’s point of view; now they are dealing with a serious and genuinely stealthy threat and not a purring kitten with intermediate cloaking effectiveness.

FT will have to watch in all directions to see where shots from the Predator originate then spot that location and open fire with all they have…Predator 1 flashback commence.

Fireteam

  • Increased weapon damage
  • Increased health
  • No spotting cooldown + longer spot duration (remember, 100% cloak cannot be spotted)

To balance out the fact that FT should be being hit a lot more out of nowhere, a health increase will not only be helpful but will also force the Predator to work harder.

The extra weapon damage will mean Predator can’t be silly either and will have to treat the FT as a serious threat.

===========

Granted, this hardcore mode will be most punishing to melee Predators but that doesn’t mean it would be impossible to be completely cloaked, wait for the FT to walk by and take some swipes and reposition.

The unlimited spot and increased duration will be punishing to those Predator players who don’t play stealthy. It will work just as it does now, highlighting the predator.

I feel like this would allow new players to use spotting as it is now/will be in the next patch, but allow lvl 100 players a much harder challenge on both sides.

I think the main issue with spotting isn’t spotting itself, but rather 1. Predator noise levels give away position and 2. Cloak hilariously ineffective while moving.
If the Predator could do a better job approaching unseen and unheard, I think spotting would suddenly be less of an issue.

Agreed and this is what this hardcore mode would address imo

However it doesn’t take away the spotting as it is now from new players who probably need it.

I think beginner vs hardcore modes are good way to address the spotting issue and allows Illfonic to have their cake and eat it so to speak.
