Quick and long claiming is risky, depending on what team you’re facing. A bunch of noobs (we call them potatoes) who don’t know what they’re doing, you can quick claim if you want, or long claim if nobody else is nearby or if they’re the last guy. But against a really good team, you don’t ever want to make yourself vulnerable (there is an exception to that, I’ll address it later). The time it takes for you to quick claim, you can be put into Second Wind in less than a second if its a coordinated team. So follow @Anonymous.Voorhees13’s advice and use ranged weapons to finish off downed FT, and always keep moving and do your best to quickshot. Watch some of @Samhain13’s videos, his are great for learning how to properly play Predator and he uses this technique very well.
In regards to that exception I mentioned, in the rare occasion that you meet a premade team, sometimes sacrificing your Second Wind for a kill is worth it. You’ll see plenty of top players doing this. Either by targeting the person you feel is the biggest threat (like a Dante Field Medic), or simply to dwindle the numbers, this tactic can mean success or failure, depending on how you play it. By reducing the team’s numbers, you reduce the overall chance of them killing you quickly. Read some threads here, you’ll very quickly see how the FT damage has been overbuffed to the point that one FT member can 1v1 a decent Pred 90% of the time, now amplify that by four…yeah. Its really bad. So by taking Second Win L in order to lessen the pressure off of you can be a smart move, but you have to know when to do it and to whom.
Also, don’t let anyone tell you that using the Bow or Plasma Pistol is cheap, or has no skill, or whatever, when finishing a downed FT. There are people out there that will openly bitch at you over the mic about it, they’re salty because you played intelligently and didn’t quick claim and open yourself up to getting melted like an idiot. Just laugh at them and move on, knowing you got the W and obviously have more skill than them.
