Heavy Attack button on PC and ?s from New Player

Hi,

Just purchased the game and am enjoying it. I do think the tutorial isn’t thorough enough and I can’t find a guide online to answer some questions I have.

  1. What is the heavy attack button when playing as Predator on PC? I don’t even see a keybind for it.

  2. When playing the Predator what do player names on the right with red boxes mean? It appears to be how much damage they’ve caused you? Do they mean anything else or provide more information?

  3. I had trouble figuring out what Second Wind is. Does this automatically extend your life when you have 0 HP but you can’t fight during it correct? Can you always count on it saving you when you have 0 HP? Am I correct in thinking you die if you don’t heal before Second Wind expires?

Thanks for your help in advance.

1 is left or right mouse click
2 its just you Scanned the fireteam and how much exp youre gonnan get
3 Second Wind helps you if your on 0 HP but you cant fight and it recharges overtime

Thanks man, really appreciate it!

Which weapon are you using? Most weapons don’t having a heavy attack, but some like the katana, axe and war club do. I’m not 100% for PC but the two attacks should be auto-binded to your mouse buttons, if its a weapon that has a heavy.

The names on the right indicate if a target has been fully scanned while in thermal vision. If you’re in thermal vision and the FT member has a red diamond icon above it that’s fully filled, its fully scanned and its displayed on the right side of your screen. This is useful for certain specializations, specifically Analytic, which increased damage to the FT if they are fully scanned.

Yes, it extends your life after your HP reaches 0. You will have a a second health bar onscreen during this phase that depletes on its own, but it lowers faster if you are being shot, so you need to move as far away from the FT as possible before healing, otherwise yes, you will automatically enter self-destruct once that bar is depleted. And correct, you cannot fight or do any other action other than run, hop or long jump while in this state. And no, you cannot always count on it; the blue shading on your health bar indicates a charged Second Wind meter. That means if you lose all HP, you are able to enter Second Wind for a chance to escape. If you use it once, you have to wait a certain amount of time for that meter to recharge. If you reach 0 HP before then, you automatically enter self-destruct, so you must be wary of your Second Wind meter when you reengage the FT after already using it and it hasn’t recharged.

Awesome, thanks for the thorough explanation, that makes sense.

Another question - is if you kill a FT member and have the opportunity to, is it ever advantageous not to quick claim? I can understand wanting to set a trap for other FT members to come and revive, but other than that, you want FT to use their one reinforcement call as early in the game as possible right?

If you have a ranged weapon such as the Bow or Hand Held Plasma Caster then shoot the downed fireteam members on the ground to kill them. It’s less risk for yourself and you’ll take less damage. Make sure you keep moving though in-between shots and quick scope them.

I explained it so bad

You mean me or yourself?

Quick and long claiming is risky, depending on what team you’re facing. A bunch of noobs (we call them potatoes) who don’t know what they’re doing, you can quick claim if you want, or long claim if nobody else is nearby or if they’re the last guy. But against a really good team, you don’t ever want to make yourself vulnerable (there is an exception to that, I’ll address it later). The time it takes for you to quick claim, you can be put into Second Wind in less than a second if its a coordinated team. So follow @Anonymous.Voorhees13’s advice and use ranged weapons to finish off downed FT, and always keep moving and do your best to quickshot. Watch some of @Samhain13’s videos, his are great for learning how to properly play Predator and he uses this technique very well.

In regards to that exception I mentioned, in the rare occasion that you meet a premade team, sometimes sacrificing your Second Wind for a kill is worth it. You’ll see plenty of top players doing this. Either by targeting the person you feel is the biggest threat (like a Dante Field Medic), or simply to dwindle the numbers, this tactic can mean success or failure, depending on how you play it. By reducing the team’s numbers, you reduce the overall chance of them killing you quickly. Read some threads here, you’ll very quickly see how the FT damage has been overbuffed to the point that one FT member can 1v1 a decent Pred 90% of the time, now amplify that by four…yeah. Its really bad. So by taking Second Win L in order to lessen the pressure off of you can be a smart move, but you have to know when to do it and to whom.

Also, don’t let anyone tell you that using the Bow or Plasma Pistol is cheap, or has no skill, or whatever, when finishing a downed FT. There are people out there that will openly bitch at you over the mic about it, they’re salty because you played intelligently and didn’t quick claim and open yourself up to getting melted like an idiot. Just laugh at them and move on, knowing you got the W and obviously have more skill than them.

Me not you jason

Yeah OK no worries I was just checking coz typos are a major pain in the ass lol

So jason is there no dlc in the next update

Yeahhh I know. Its either going to be something completely horseshit or maybe a somewhat pleasant surprise in the form of bug fixes or maybe a new map and mode if we are piss your pants lucky but yeah.

I hope Bug fixes and New gamemode

Yeah I’ll be holding onto the quite literally hopeless hope of fixing fps drops and blue screens etc with some BALANCING and the Gauntlet gamemode. I do miss the buzz you used to get after a new map being added though. Excavation is ass, Airstrip is fun to play on tbf but the ammo crates on the map make it unbalanced asf. Headquarters is probably the most visually appealing and has different areas that require different tactics and give advantages to either side and also Fireteam can’t just rush mission in 3 minutes flat like on some other maps Derailed camera mission cough cough

Thanks again for the detailed response - will plasma cannon do just as well in finishing off downed FT members?

Also is there a way to tell if it’s a premade FT or you just have to observe their skill in game? I haven’t seen a way to tell what levels the other players in game are yet and matchmaking doesn’t seem to take into account levels from what I can tell.

When you say quickscope, do you mean right lick on the mouse?

I mean I play on PS5 but basically just quickly aim and fire literally as soon as you press aim.

Yep, plasma cannon can be used as well, but the rate of fire can be an issue, plus quickshots are less damaging than a arrow or plasma pistol shot. I would save charged cannon shots for medium to long range, and if you get a down up close stick to bow/pistol.

Skill is pretty much the only way to determine if they’re a good team or not. On PS you can check a player’s progress percentage if they haven’t privated their account, and I’m sure there is a way to do that on PC but I’m unsure how. If you’re spotted immediately and constantly, always getting shot and the hits are on point and you’re getting melted, then likely its a premade, or just really good players. Another thing is to watch a lot of the videos we post here, you can see the names of the people who are really good and you can look out for them.

Right click to start the aiming, immediately click left to fire. You’re not taking any time to draw back, you’re just aiming and firing as fast as you can.
