I am leaving the Forums

Also @ElderPreddy, here is my question for you, and I would like your honest answer:

You said that I would be going to hell for what I have said, but isn’t a core principle of Christianity that God is all forgiving if you choose to repent and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? (I’m Methodist, my catholic knowledge is a little fuzzy, so do correct me if I’m wrong here.) And I do that, as I said, I am Methodist. So, what do you think God’s judgement would be for me if I were to die now if a stroke or brain aneurysm?

Give him time. Being defensive is not the answer for this. Faith is fragile. Let’s say he has it figured out and you’re asking him to find holes in it. It could be healthy to do it general, but perhaps not now.

Religious sheeple are more annoying than non-religious sheeple.

Define “teachings”. I think “the golden rule” is good policy, but I don’t think God would have a hand in steering mankind with direct action, then suddenly stop and expect utter faith. I don’t see how animals are any more or less sacred than humans.

Personally I’ve always felt “organized” religions started as man’s need to rationalize things, and then developed into a instrument of power and control.

Many religions there think they have it figured out as to how humans should behave and whatever is not covered the ‘invent’ or chalk it up to not understanding or questions god. I’d be might sus about anyone who claims such certainty.

I do think religion was a base for morals and behaviour and perhaps still could be. But this stuff about sin and god punishing you has got to go.

No carrot or stick, no reason to follow the rules.

You should have sent him a PM avout being sorry for what you said and left it at that. In time he may respond

I will.

Well, in the past perhaps, but now through science/sociology we can see that being good is good in itself and benefits most evertyone. That should be good enough.

Religious people are easy to control. They are obedient and follow arbitrary bullshit rules because they think they will be rewarded for it.

Governments love religious people.

I think so, but people/religion still clings to that.

I could mention at least one exception, but I’ll burn for it

People tend to conflate catholics with methodists, baptists etc but those were branded heretics just like everyone else no?

Matter of perspective. All that’s required to dominate another is the will to do so and go beyond reason. “Land of the Blind the one eyed man is king.” Science and sociology don’t mean squat against a good right hook and the purpose of an individual promoting society is usually motivated by self advancement in that society.
