Not necessarily. Faith is just as powerful and can be just as beneficial as reason.

Science makes its own faith-based arguments they just call them theories because they can be revised on the fly and no one cares about pluto or whether or not the T-rex was a giant turkey or an alien sent from space.
or even confirmed what killed it.

The things science can prove aren’t in regards to defining our existence itself, so its no good in this regard. Religon is just where you have to accept your knowledge is ultimately limited. Very hard for some people though. And nihilism is absolutization of the ego.

This thread has bored me, everyone listen up! I will be leaving this thread… that is all.

HERETIC!

Perhaps. Im not well versed on govs of the world that use faith as part of law in their society. The best I can do is all the persecuted religion moving to USA. It was a faith driven movement, but still not on a gov scale.

That thought crossed my mind when the time comes for my views to get cornered.

It’s not about ego. Fear of death wouldn’t make an atheist believe in any of the number of available religions or gods.

They would probably remain focused on enjoying every remaining moment or, in the case of a foxhole, they would probably stay focused on fighting to survive, defending their friends, or reminiscing on the life they’ve lived.

The only “supernatural” thing an atheist in a foxhole might hope for is something similar to an afterlife or reincarnation, neither necessitating religious dogma or a deity.

If by faith, you really mean hope and trust, then I could agree.

Believing, regardless of the available evidence, is never a good thing.

You’re answering your own post here

doesn’t have to be an organized religon

You gotta start somewhere. Supposedly science will try to reach that 95% confidence interval, which could still be wrong, but i respect the process. Tho I’ve read future a few articles about science having a hard time abandoning old idea to the point that they will find any way to discredit new findings. Very troubling

Yes, science is limited in those types of questions. That’s why we have phylosophy and psychology. They are a much healthier outlook than religion in my opinion.

Debatable. My “gut” has never been wrong and it’s never provided evidence.

I quoted it the first time. Is science trying to snag its peice of the afterlife party now as long as they don’t use the g word?

Psychology is a lobbyist meme based entirely off norms, a better bet would be neuroscience and we still know jack about the human brain.

Religon is immaterial philosophy. “What happens when I die?” will have a faith-based response.

I’ll go with neuroscience.
