I Feel The Game Was Rushed

One Shigeru Miyamoto said it best, “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”

Don’t get me wrong I absolutely adore this game and even grinded my way to level 100, but man was it painful. I didn’t experience any matchmaking hell, the wait times for me we’re akin to R6 Siege wait times. My problems were mostly the small bugs that begin to slowly chip away at my enjoyment with the game. I won’t list them here as this isn’t the place for it but I have other posts discussing them. No I’m here to say that I think that Illfonic wanted the game to release with the annual celebration of Alien Day. For those of you who don’t know Alien day is a day to recognize and appreciate the Alien franchise and was founded by 20th Century Fox themselves. I personally love that the date choice itself holds meaning: 4/26 for Americans and the 26th of April for everyone else, refers to the designation of the moon in the 1st film: LV-426. And it makes sense to release a game about their most iconic rivals around the time most people celebrate, trying to take away the spotlight from the xenomorphs. Now Mr. Sark has said that he was doing the VO for the past year so they’ve been working on it for at least that amount of time but another year of development would have done wonders. I feel that with more playtesting and quality assurance the game would have been a gem from release.
All that said I don’t think the game is bad or forever going to be bad just that it will have a bad reputation and is going to take time to mend it.
And hey if push comes to shove I’m always down to playtest a game I want to see succeed for free just mail me an NDA and I’ll sign that shit and move wherever you need me.

To say the game isn’t rushed would be a huge lie. Poor balancing, bugs, texture glitches and more show how rushed this game is

Also 3 maps on launch, not even bored of the gameplay as a level 100, I’m just bored at looking at the same 3 fuckin maps all the time, overgrowth, detailed, and fuckin backwater man

The weird fuzzy graphics don’t help either, the gameplay isn’t too bad in concept it’s just weird bugs, and overall poor performance doesn’t help in terms of actual fun you can have. The game might be a bit more interesting once they make proper balancing changes, sort the graphics and optimise. Here’s hoping to them sorting that fast before it ends up another cash grab like Friday the 13th

On ps4 pro I feel like the game runs pretty good for me imo

Looking at No Man’s Sky, I think that quote from Miyamoto lost its edge once we got to the era of gaming where updates and fixes could be put out to games without having to send out whole new disks ir cartridges etc.

Onto the main topic though, it’s hard to say if it was rushed. On the one hand, they’ve worked primarily with Unreal Engine and as such would have a good understanding of how it works and the different kinks of the engine that they would need to iron out. And whilst the game doesn’t look amazing, it doesn’t look bad either, and I’ve experienced very little in the way of frame issues and bugs. I’ve had a few yes, but bot enough to hinder my experience.

To me, it feels like a small team game, which it is, but there are certainly areas where more work could have been put into that didn’t require any player interaction to go further on, like optimization and stuck spots as an example.

Overall I am still happy with the game I got, and hopefully, as time goes on, the game will only get better and work better, but I do not feel it was rushed, just limited by the small dev team.

It’s also nice to see people who don’t chant for Illfonic to be burnt at the stake, very nice to read, haha
